Ok, I know it's not endo related, but it's a women's health thing. It's about how the pink ribbon for breast cancer is over marketed and how some women with breast cancer feel about it. (It's a little long.) www.boston.com/bostonglobe/magazine/articles/2009/10/04/sick_of_pink/?page=1I read this and found I really agreed with a lot of what they had to say. I mean, education is great, but I think it's going a bit too far. The part that really got me is that some of the products that have the pink ribbon have/had ingredients in them that are not good!

I agree and disagree...on one hand, yes, even though they're profiting, it's still going to a good cause. But on the other hand, companies will (usually) do anything and everything to profit and not give a damn who they're affecting in the process. I thought the blurb about this not happening in Europe was interesting...it's true! This is why America is looked on poorly at times. Anything for the "All Mighty" dollar... People are profiting off women who have had their lives turned around by breast cancer. It's sick.

Sounds cool! I'm all about DOING things for a good cause, no doubt. It's a good way to raise awareness, education, and honor those that have been through it. Marketing products? That's a whole different story.

Yep. We never buy ribbons, either.

Every year at the library we have October dedicated to breast cancer awareness. In March I do the awareness displays for Endometriosis. We have a coworker who has went thru breast cancer. Our ladies in the knitting group make scarves for the pateints and we display them in the library the entire month. We have a table dedicated to all breast cancer books. Same for Endo in March. I am a believer in awareness and supporting a disease in other ways then buying commercial products. We get to see how happy the knitted scarves make the women. You do not get that buying a product at the drug store. I feel the same about Endo. This year I am having a baker make yellow cupcakes and serving lemonade at the library for the first day of March. I think more on a smaller scale rather than a big production where you do not really see where your money is going. I believe it goes to the foundation but I want to see the people that I give to. October and March we have the highest circ for womens health books. It tells me we are doing something right. One thing I do also is the Breast Cancer walk we do that as a entire library system to support all our women in the community and at the library who have been touched by the disease.

I can certainly see that side of things, but I think it's more people get all huffy when others are profiting off an illness.

^^ Ahh gotcha. Did you see the entire NFL wearing pink? I was wondering where all that money went to from making all that pink stuff.
