Medical Records

My Columbus doc wanted 3 weeks ago all my Canton and my NYC doc to fax over my medical records so he could prepare for surgery. Well I filled out the paper work and figured it has all been done. I found out yesterday it had not been done by any of my docs. I had to go to each doctor and hand deliver the release. While I was in my hematologist office I found out that they still have not updated my anaphalatic shock episode to my iron infusion and my 2 and half day stay at the hospital. I have to now go to the hospital and sign a release for them to send those records to Columbus. All so annoying. The office staff at these places could do all this they have the realease already but are lazy and make a big deal about standing at a fax machine and sending documents that I paid for. My pictures that they took of my Endometriosis can not be faxed so when I said thats ok I will just take them with me they said NO! My doc took many notes so they should be good enough but why the hell can I not have those pics. My NYC doctor won't even return my calls so I have no idea when his staff will get the act together to send my records to Columbus. What is the problem. They are all holding me up and Dr. Jones is not going to schedule until he has my records and can look everything over. I have so many issues that he does not wan't to go in blind. I am so pissed! I am sitting here on medical leave waiting on records to be sent. I only have until November! I have to get back to work. Its very frustrating. I am being assertive with all of them but they just do not listen!

They won't let you have the PICTURES??? Uh... that's bullshyte.

My suggestion? Resend the requests, with a formal letter written by you and a deadline by which your records are supposed to BE at the new docs, send it via fax, hand deliver, and certified mail so you know they have to sign for it and can't say that they lost it. Perhaps give them a date/time in which you will stop by and pick up a copy in person. Of course, call ahead before you actually waste your time going to pick it up.

And as for the pictures, it's part of your medical record and you should be allowed a copy of them. I give you credit for being assertive, but I think it's time to step it up to borderline annoying.

Anyone out there well versed in medical record rights??

Got it all worked out:) Records are in Columbus I had to deal with it on vacation but atleast they are in the docs hands now! I call this week to find out how soon they can get me in for surgery.....

When I was trying to get my surgery records they sent me the wrong one three times!! I think the office staff in medical offices must be the people that were to dumb to get into medical school so they settled for office staff. I finally went there and stood in the office asking for the report. She brought out the wrong one for the fourth time running. She didn't even have the grace to be embarrsed. TWIT. LOL
