I went into for my Lupus panel and they wanted to take 17 vials of blood well I had to stop them and make sure they had the right order. I have a hemoglobin of 9 and ferritin level of 2 so I treasure my blood like some women do diamonds LOL! Anyways they made a call to the doc to be sure they were doing the right blood work and he ordered them to do 3 vials instead of 17 because of my hemoglobin and anemia issues. Of course the lab tech had her 3cents to put in on the order and she said" I have no idea how your doc wants to find out if you have Lupus with only 3 vials of blood but whatever." My question is how do you get a blood panel for Lupus with 3 vials when you need 17? Will my results be accurate? I am so dumb when it comes to all this I have no idea how it even works?

I wouldn't worry about it. They always take WAAAY more than they need anyways. As long as they took the proper number of color-coded vials (notice one will have a lavender top, moddled red, red top, etc.) you should be A-OK.

Yes I talked to the doctor and he said it should be fine he did not want to take 17 vials so he is running the test with 3 vials. I should have results soon. Its a hard disease to diagnose so I could come back negative even if I am positive if I am not in a flare up which the doc thought I was because of having a lesions right now. Fingers crossed:)

Hey Keri, saw my GP today and asked about Lupus. She was a bit dismissive but I'm going for blood tests and she's checking my ESR levels - which is an indicator of inflammation in the body. Doh.

Good I am so glad she is running the tests for you let me know how it goes. I wonder why she was dismissive about it? Hmmm well atleast you got her to run them and when those come back you will know what to do next. LOTS of blood work for this but its worth it in the end you will get a answer it maybe a long time but atleast you are doing what you need to for your body. I have almost given up hope a few times and am glad I have stuck with it. Karen put things in perspective for me one time. If it is not Lupus you need to know what it is.

Hey there, got my blood tests back today. Most pretty normal. I asked for a print of the results so I could research them myself. During the course of my research I came across B12 deficiency, man I have so many symptoms. I found a site that has a 'test' where you fill in questions and it gives you back a 'result'. A score of >20 is an indicator of deficiency, my score was 102!! B12 = Pernicious anaemia = autoimmune. I'm going back and asking for this blood test!
