UGH! Our brand-new dryer is NOT drying clothes. Our electric bill is going to be sky-high this month. And I have to deal with the inept office people and maintenance staff to get it repaired.

Oh yuck. I had that happen a couple of years ago...my husband left a horseshoe nail in his pocket and it feel through the tiny holes and ended up frying the heating element. It almost set our house on fire! Good thing we caught it when we did.

Holy crap! That is scary!!!! They replaced the element yesterday, and it almost dried one load all the way, but sure enough, I put another load in it, cottons, high, more than ample amount of time...TWICE, and the clothes are still wet.
The maintenance guy is coming today....but he dosen't know if that will be morning or afternoon. It will be before he leaves--at 5:00. That said, the poor little critter will be inside the house AGAIN. ALL DAY. UGH!!!!!

Perhaps it's not the dryer but the vent? I had that happen last year - the woman above me and I share a vent, and every time her dryer was on, mine would get full of steam and my clothes took forever to dry. I had the maintenance guy check out the vent and it was plugged. Ours was plugged at the top, but they can easily plug near where the dryer connects to the wall. Easy fix. If there's no place for the heat/steam to escape, they won't dry!

OH god. I bet that was it! There was steam in the dryer! Mannn. And my new dryer has now been replaced (20 min ago) with an older model that is loud and wobbles. Darn it! I wish I would have had him check the vent! I had to get the fire department here to get them to clean the vents last year! Some vents had 1 ft. of lent hanging out! I kept calling the office about it, but no one would do anything, so I called the fire dept.

Well, you'll likely still have the same problem... Perhaps you can call to complain again and when they come back out, you can get the old (new) dryer back!
If you have a long brush, you can take care of things yourself, assuming it's backed up right by the wall. Just move the dryer out, disconnect the hose, clean it out, and re-connect. Usually not that hard!

I think you are 100% right. I just tried to dry a load of clothes...same thing. Just wet and steam on the inside of the door. I have anotherrrrrrrrr call in to the office. I doubt we'll get the old (new) dryer back since we live upstairs. You'd think the dip sh*t would have checked the vent before jerking the old dryer out, taking it all the way down the stairs and bringing up a new one? ?

i had that at my old apartment too - such idiots sometimes, like seriously - what credentials do you have to have to be a repairman? at some point common sense has to prevail -- or not! i hope it gets fixed for you soon - in the meantime, you should compare your old electricity bill month over month and deduct the increase from your rent - then they will fix it quickly! and note how many times you have called and the lag time for them to come out and fix it... squeaky wheel gets the oil -- or something like that
