Hi Ladies Just curious to see if you are on the diet and if you are losing weight? I started last Friday and have dropped 4 pounds - which is excellent, I need to lose quite a bit more, but I am wondering if I will continue to lose or if its just my body adjusting to the difference in diet. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Its like anything, output vs input... you need to maintain a healthy lifestyle and exercise where you can. The endo diet is tailored to relieve endo symptoms by removing foods that can aggravate it and the inflammation. Anytime you remove bad or unhealthy foods and switch to a diet based on at least 80% raw plant foods, and cutting out pro-inflammatory foods like gluten, dairy, and sugar (especially corn syrup) will assist in weight loss but as i said if you want to lose weight its more about counting calories/kilojules and incorporating exercise. I hope it assist you in reducing your endo related symptoms and if it does that then its better than weight loss

No, I am following the diet for the pain relief, I am thinking I will follow it strictly for the first 30-60 days and then slowly add back in meat, eggs and continue without the wheat & sugar depending on how it affects the pain level. I have a 18-23 day cycle, so there are very few days of the month that I do not cramp/hurt so if a diet can bring the pain to a manageable level then weight loss or not, I will continue to follow it.
I was just pleasantly surprised I actually dropped some weight since I have been counting calories and exercising and seeing no results and wondering if it was something that everyone had also experienced.

I lost about 10 lbs within the first two months on the diet but then my body adjusted and I am happily maintaining what I have now

Well as of today I am down 8 pounds (yay!) and thats at the end of 2 weeks. I have actually started making notes of what really ignites the pain. I almost am always hurting, but on Tuesday I realized that vinegar sets it off to a mind blowing level. So I am noticing some food sensitivities and completely taking that out of the diet. So now for salads I am just having olive oil and lemon wedges as dressing which is actually pretty good.
I agree that some of the restrictions are difficult - I would love to have a glass of wine or an ice cold beer, but aside from meat and eggs, I have been able to find acceptable substitutes for some of my favorite treats - instead of chips and salsa I just found some red beans and rice chips and I dip it into hummus - who knew! now if I just had the cure for my chocolate cravings!!!

That's cool that you can id what causes more pain! I was amazed when I figured that out. I haven't been on the endo diet, but have made some of my own restrictions. Now that I have a better idea of what triggers things, I'm much more comfy adding other foods back in here and there.
And bonus points on the weight loss!!

Hi, could anyone tell me how long they tried the diet to know if it was working for them for pain control? I have been on the endo diet for 1 1/2 months, and have noticed no change, except in my mood as I use food as a stress reliever and no longer eat anything fun.....

Hmm, I think it really depends on the person. Not the answer you wanted to hear, right? I didn't quite do the endo diet - I did more along the lines of the insulin resistance diet (there's a whole thread here about it, including the book I used as a guide) and felt results within a few days. I've since modified things even more (meaning I'm not nearly as selective about what I eat) now that I'm at the point where I can kind of pin-point which foods trigger more pain than others. The endo diet is quite strict, and not all foods are triggers to all women. Start playing around with things if you're comfortable and see if you notice a difference. I found a food journal to be incredibly helpful. I remember exactly when and where I was (and what I was eating) when I realized the link to food because the pain ramped up really quick just minutes after I ate something! Took me a while to get to that point, but... Keep in mind - some women have fab results with changes in diet and others do not. Don't get discouraged just yet - if you're not seeing results, keep playing around with things a bit more before you throw in the towel!

I just read the 4 pages on the IR diet. My problem is that I am having trouble finding the time to do all the chopping and prep work on the endo diet, and it sounds like it's the same on the IR Diet...I guess there is never going to be a quick fix. But I went out and bought a note book, so I am going to keep track of what I eat, and how I feel that day, for the next while....Then I might get a bigger picture.

Yeah, a change in diet really takes a lot of effort. I find if I set aside a few hours on Sunday to plan my meals for the week, shop, and make a few meals to stick in the fridge, I do quite well. Saves me a ton of time during the week and prevents me from slipping up as much during the week. I make a point to bring fruit and granola bars to work to snack on so I don't end up at the vending machine. Good luck with the diet log - curious if you'll find anything that sticks out or not!
