I haven't been able to ride my sale horse for the past 4 or 5 months due to my endo crap and my lower back issues. My best friend has been riding him for me quite frequently and has been doing WONDERFUL with him. Well, Saturday she decided to hike the jumps up pretty high (something she said later on she might not have been ready for yet) and crashed. She ended up falling and braced her fall with her right hand. She waited two days to get it checked out, and low and behold she broke her arm in two places. UGHHHHHH. I feel soooo bad. I know it's the nature of beast (no pun intended) when you ride horses, but still. It sucks when it's your own and someone gets injured on them, and your property. She swears she's not mad and knows it's not my fault, but I still feel responsible. I'm lending her my other truck for a few weeks (because her's is a stick-shift and now she can't drive it). Is there anything else you guys think I should do? Some type of gift basket or something.

OOoh. That does suck. I think a giftbasket would be nice. Hehe. Maybe buy her some riding lessons with jumps!

I think a gift basket is a great idea, too! Perhaps some practical things with a few fun things sprinkled in? Or maybe you could offer to help her out around the house one day or cook some meals for her? I totaled my sister's car one time - mine was in the shop so I borrowed hers and hit a deer at 65 mph. Nothing I could have done and she understood, but she got some flowers from me for it! Does she have a cast? Maybe you can sign it ala junior high days!

Yes, she does have a cast, the poor thing! She's actually staying home another day from work because her neck is pretty busted up too. I was thinking of baking a casserole and getting her a few DVD's or something and bringing them over tonight. Poor thing. I love horse's, but I hate the all the crap that comes along with them!

^OOOh! Sounds like a brilliant idea! Casseroles are always good for women with injuries and women with babies!

I actually made one last night to try that was AMAZING. My boss gave me the recipe...not really figure or endo friendly, but it was damn delicious and easy peasy! I'll post the recipe in the recipe thread. YUM

Well, I think that you hit the nail on the head: it comes with the territory. During WEF of 03, I was schooling at Castlewood and my current horse spooked. I couldn't find my fuzzy girth so I had to use a leather one. I think it might have pinched him. Anyway, I fell, blacked out and busted up my right wrist really good. Went to the ER, they told me it was a sprain. Fast foward to '04. Wake up and hand is blue. Long story short, I torn the main ligament in my wrist. Two surgeries, two pins and a host of issues later - I have a pretty Harry Potteresque scar.
I guess it would be a nice gesture from you to her, but at the end of the day - things happen. Did she sign a waver?

Last time I rode a horse, I got stuck in a Mimosa tree!

Did it rain delicious mimosa's into your mouth??? LOL Tess, no, I didn't have her sign a waiver. She's my best friend so I just didn't do it/think of it. I do have the Florida Equine liability sign hanging in my barn however. Me and my hubby were actually discussing the waiver thing to have people sign for now on. This is the first accident that was someone besides myself at the farm, so it kind of brought it into perspective. I know she doesn't hold me liable, but hey, you never know!

I have a suggestion for getting back to the horses though for you! I haven't ridden in a long time so I have a driving pony... Actually two! Its really funny because one is a shetland and the other is a welch/mini cross. We have a mini team and go out with a mini wagon. I still get the smell of the horses without the pain of riding. My poor shetland was really fuzzy though because I haven't been up to giving him a bath and getting his overload of winter hair off. My son finally went out and helped me brush him. He looked a lot better but the pile of hair was awful!
