Just wondering if anyone else has a problem with exessive burping? Every now and then, about twice a month, i will have an 'episode' where i just bur-p and burp and burp for a few hours... real gutteral and almost like i'm going to throw up?
Well anyway, i started this burping on Monday...only it didn't stop after a couple of hours...infact it hasn't stopped! Its driving my insane, these are not nice little lady burps, these are worse than anything i've ever heard, and i just don't know where all the air is coming from! I'm also bringing up bile and food half the time...its so gross. I went to my GP who was stumped, so i'm taking antiobiotics incase i have a gut infection, however this should have been picked up on the faeces tests i recently had if that was the cause. I also had an ultrasound ofmy abdomen and diaphram, which was horrible, all the water i had to drink just came straight back up when i laid down and it hurt everywhere she pressed. That didn't show anything, so tomorrow morning i am having a gastroscopy to look into my oesophogus, etc.
Has anyone else had anything similar? It is so gross, i haven't been at work all week because i ust don't feel i can be in public doing these gigantic belches every few seconds, plus i feel exhausted and have a sore throat from all of the bile. I know exessive burping can be a symptom of GERD/GORD, but i have no idea what it is, if it is related to all the other gut/bowel problems i've been having....
Am i the only gross burpy freak here?

It's funny - I know the kind of burps that you're talking about! My neighbor had a similar problem and I remember being at her house and thinking geez, she's burping like a man after a 6 pack!! Turns out she had acid reflux. I think she had some food intolerances, too, that made the problem worse. Not sure if your doctor ruled that out with you but figured it wouldn't hurt to mention! Good luck and I hope it stops soon! And on a lighter note - you're living a teenage boy's dream... I had a friend that LIVED for a good belch back in the day. Can you get the whole alphabet out in one big belch yet?!?

haha thanks for making me laugh olsenka! I have to say i didn't even attempt the alphabet, i mostly just tried to keep them in! No fun, i know I get reflux a lot too, and am taking medication for that which reduces the amount of acid my stomach makes. They help a lot, but as this epiosode has proven, don't stop it completely. So anyway....i met the gastroenterologist for the first time when i went in to the hospital for the gastroscopy. He immediately started asking me all these questions whgich i wasn't prepared for (ie. about my whole health history, i thought he'd only want to know about the burping stuff) so i felt that io wasn't able to explain my situation very well, and he immediately locked on the depression/stress factor. Like asking me "Are you in a relationship?" "Yes". "Is it a good relationship?" "Yes" (suspiciously) "I mean a really good relationship, is it good for you" and stuff, and asking me if i slept well, and because i was on the spot i didn't answer with everything and i felt like he was pinnin it all on depression. Yes i am depressed, but it is treated, and yes i get stressed sometimes, but i don't think i have been subconciously/unconsiouly gulping and swallowing air, even when i'm asleep, for the last week. It was frustrating and made me cry. If he thought it was from stress, why even bother to do the gastroscopy? Anyway he did it and it went well, the nurses said they would tell him off for making me cry. They only give you a sedative, but i was completely out of it. He said he didn't see anything wrong, but took a biopsy, the result of which i haven't got yet. He also maintained the stress thing, but then gave me a script for Motilium, which is used for something called gastroparesis, which means food moves too slowly through your system and that allows gas to build up. That sounds kind of right. So i dont know if he thinks i have this, or just gave me the pills for it? Anyway they have helped enormously! I feel so much better, have almost stopped burping entirely! Except now i am having this kind of weird experience where i feel stressed because i should be stressed...like i have this new knowledge that i am stressed and depressed and it makes me feel weird. I dunno. Oh and also, i got the proper results from my ultrasoun, they said my stomach was very full even though i had been fasting, and that i had lots of bowel gas. So much in fact that they couldn't locate my gall bl;dder. I don't know if this is a problem though? Now i have an appointment with the gastro for Friday, i made the appointment before all this started, and i don't know if i want to go or not. I kind of feel like he is just going to fob me off, and blame all my problems on stress. I know stress makes it worse, but i don't think it is the sole cause. I'm seriosuly not that stressed~!!! And his stupid assumption where he was asking me if i'm an uptight person. I said no, so he asked if i jump when people come up quietly behind me, and because i said yes he said that made me uptight. Ugh. Anyway this post isn't really going anywhere...however...i have (mostly) stopped burping! YAY

Another jerky thing he did, was ask me about the scratches on my arms. They're there because i have a puppy who has sharp puppy teeth and nails and likes to play... But it was just the way he asked about it, you know how sometimes you feel guilty even though you haven't done anything? That's how he made me feel. Ugh

Phew, glad you were able to curb the burping. I agree - sounds like a meanie doc. But, hey, at least he gave you something that worked. But for him to insinuate that depression caused the burping? Yeah, I think that's a stretch.
Keep us posted on your appointment on Friday. It's interesting that a med for when food moves too slowly through your digestive system made big strides, especially when your ultrasound showed lots of food in your tummy yet. Do you think there's some connection to what's going on and endo now that you know that?
And as for the doc, chalk it up to him being a jerk. He looks up people's bums for a living... I'd be cranky, too!

Just a quick msg to say that i had my appointment on Friday and it actually went really well, the dr was a lot less jerky, my appt lasted about 40 mins so i felt we actually covered everything and he really listened, etc. He even wrote a new letter to my GP which he dictated infront of me to make sure i was ok with it, as his last letter prob made me sound like a basket case. He thinks my bowel is stuffed (hehe) that i have functional bowel problems both upper and lower. However i am having a colonoscopy in a couple of weeks to rule out Chrohns, etc, as i have a few symptoms that dont match up. I feel a lot better now, like i'm actually on the way to sorting this out. It was a very relieving appointment.
Thanks for your support!

Glad he wasn't such a meanie this time! And even more glad that you have a plan in place! Sometimes I find that just having a plan - even if it needs to be tweaked later on - helps immensely in feeling like you have a tiny bit of control of what's going on with your body! Good luck and keep us posted.
