What about the ones with lavender in? Heat plus aromatherapy :-)

I've had wheat bags, the lavendar ones start to make you feel nauseous after a while cos the wheat itself has a smell so it's a bit unpleasant after a few uses. The issue isn't so much next to the skin either, I think it's continued use and for some it stands to reason that we'd put it only on one problem area. I never put it on bare skin not even when it's just warm. Always have a cover on (have a Bagpuss one and a furry one plus a fabric covered one at work) always wear clothing, sometimes 2 layers between me and the hottie. I think it's worth investigating whethere there's any damage being done to the skin or nerves. The marbling must be a symptom of something I don't believe it's completely harmless by any stretch of the imagination. Like they tell you to keep your hand under running water after a burn, because the fat underneath will still be heated and convecting heat, causing damage after the fact... what are we potentially doing to ourselves?

That's a very good point about taking the heat out of the skin after a burn as that's what causes a lot of the damage. I'm at the hospital tomorrow so will ask about this and see if I can get a decent answer.

Hi, i like this thread! i went into the hospital with a hot water bottle on my tummy after having it on there ALL day! the doctor that saw me said i should be really careful as it would give me cornbeef skin!!!!! when i asked what she ment it means burning in a specific pattern that comes from hot water bottles (im guessing the pattern of the bottle) so i always wrap my hot water bottle in a towel now as it lets the heat through but stops it from burning you.
