Has anyone delt with this? Since I've had my laparotomy, I've had a UTI two weeks after every period -- like clockwork. I'm starting round three, I'm sure. My gyno put me on Macrobid the first time, Leviquid (sp?) the second, and she said if it came back to go see a urologist, so I guess that's who I'll be calling Monday. Or my surgeon... dunno...
This is just so frustrating!!!! Any ideas??? Could the surgery have caused this somehow?

Macrobid and Levaquin are really strong antibiotics. What exactly cultured out of your UA?

Also, are you on the pill? (Forgive me if you have stated this in a previous post--my mind is all jumbled most days now. LOL) I had recurrent "UTI's" every month...but it wound up being irritation from flow aggravating dried out vaginal lining from the pill. Doctors never found anything in the cultures...yet STILLL gave me antibiotics!

My initial test comes back positive for whatever they test for in a uti, but the cultures always come back "contaminated" no matter what I do. And i'm not on bc pills. Although my periods are 10 days long right now. Might that have something to do with it? My gyno said the urologist might do a cathedered urine sample. Not something I really want to do... lol... but i will if I have to.
The antibiotics work right away tho, and then right after my period is FINALLY done, it's back.
I would think "irritation" except my symptoms are back pain, shakiness, and incontinance w/bloody urine... fun... sorry for the tmi.

I was having all those symptoms, too, and still no bacteria. Freaky, huh!
I really have no idea but think that the catheterized sample is the best bet to get a clean catch.

Went off the pill (and they completely resolved)...but since you're not on the pill...I have no idea.
Is it possible that you have bladder endo?

Slightly off topic but doesn't it get to you a bit when your surgeon dramatically announces you have it everywhere. I sat there like a stunned turnip then burst into tears! I can say that I had UTI type trouble for a while before and after my surgery. It took me 6 months to feel fully better post-surgery. So in my experience I felt like very little had been done to resolve my bladder pain and urgency just weeks after the op, but now that I'm fully healed up I feel mostly normal. Do have the odd return of bladder trouble when I have breakthrough bleeding (I'm on continuous Pill for now) but otherwise I feel tonnes better. I'd say give it a little while longer. I was stage 3 and had coverage on all surfaces, and it must take so long to heal after removal. I had excision, with part of my peritoneum having to be removed. We can't not move around whilst we're healing, and our organs make a million tiny and big movements that must hinder the healing process somewhat. Like picking a scab say. Don't worry too much. I had my excision last August and didn't feel 'healed' til Jan/Feb of this year, especially my bladder it was one of the last things to feel better.

Thanks... I'm just always waiting for the other shoe to drop, you know? I'm just afraid there's something else wrong, but I don't want to go through unnecessary medical stuff to find out. I think the two round of antibiotics may have been unnecessary. It's just weird to "leak"... LOL
I'm also counting down the days until we can try to get pregnant, and I don't want anything to get in the way! All the docs make it sound so dire, and I don't want to give up hope, although we've been trying to five years now. We can try next month, and I don't want anything else to go wrong! I'm 37 and the clock is ticking hard...

Hey I just thought I would let you all know that I had big problems with recurrent UTI's went for Ultra sounds, renal CT scans and everything but nothing was "wrong", but my mum gave me some wonderful advice, do a wee after you have sex... I haven't had a UTI in over a year because I pee everytime after sex! It just flushes anything icky from that area and cos girls have really short urethra's compared to guys we are much more likely to get them.

Thanks, but it's not a sex thing. I've managed to have sex once in the past six months due to either surgery or illness... sigh...
My doc put me on yet another round of macrobid today, and I have an appt with my surgeon on Dec 9th. Fingers crossed... I'm tired of this.
