So i don't think its related to my endo, but i have to have a colposcopy soon, and i figure that many of you girls have probably under gone lots of exams and pokings about, and might be able to tell me about it? I'm actually quite nervous about it...the thought of the gyn being so up close and personal, while i'm fully awake, is a little off putting! I'm also worried about the pain factor too. The situation is, my last pap (a year ago) was abnormal, so i have just been for a repeat, with my GP though not gyn. And because i told her that i was having a lot of pain during sex, both superficial and deep, that i bleed following sex and sometimes have vag bleeding following BM (yay), she did a very thoughrough pap (like 6 swabs and a thin prep instead of just the normal 1) and has sent me off to the gyn for a colposcopy. The thing is, pap's have never hurt me before but this one really did, made me bleed for the whole day after and my entire pelvis ache...so i'm a bit worried (ok a lot worried) about the colposcopy and how much that might hurt.... So if anyone has had this, i'd be interested to hear your experiences with it... Thanks

Yep. Not related to endo. A pap checks for precancerous cells of the cervix, which are almost always caused by HPV. My friend had a colposcopy done, and a couple years later, she is still cancer-free. We have a couple threads on here about HPV and colposcopies. Just do a search for them . Good luck!

Thought i'd let you know i had my colposcopy done yesterday. Man that was a fun experience. Poor dr ended up grabbing me by the hand "this part isn't meant to hurt you know!" oh but it did. And then she took a biopsy, which also frickin hurt, like bad period cramping. That continued all day. Funniest part was back in her room when she showed me the little bit of cervix floating around in the preserving fluids...it looked so big to me!!!
Anyway, good news is i don't have ANY signs of cancer. I do however have endo cervical ectopy (i think that's what she said it was caled anyway). Its been caused by being on the pill, and actually happens to alot of women (also when going through puberty) that the lining of the cervix thickens. Normally its not a problem and you don't even notice it, but in my case it is bleeding upon touching (hence bleeding after sex) and causing me a whole lotta pain!! So i'm having surgery next Tues, large loop exision of the transformation zone (LLETZ), which is where they use a loop wire thingy to cut out some of the tissue. Its the same surgery used to remove abnormal cells if you have an abnormal pap smear/CIN1 , etc. She says once its removed, it should heal quickly and often doesn't reoccur, and should ease some of the pain.
Its only a very quick, 10 min surgery, and seeing as they remove such a small amount it wont affect my ability to get pregnant in the future. I'm really hoping it will make a difference!!
