I am having a lap done next Thursday (16th) for suspected endo of my bowels and my gyn is using a harmonic scalpel. This is what I found on it, via wikipedia: The harmonic scalpel is a cutting instrument used during surgical procedures to simultaneously cut and coagulate tissue. The harmonic scalpel cuts via vibration. The scalpel surface itself cuts through tissue by vibrating in the range of 20,000 Hz. The vibration cuts through the tissue and seals it using protein denaturization, rather than heat.
Also, has anyone had a surgeon that decided to remove your appendix before hand?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I had my appendix removed during my surgery cause it was covered in endo saw a photo from the surgery and it had chocolate cysts all over it and things were stuck to it ewww
what do you mean remove it before hand? do they know there is endo affecting ur appendix already? not sure its a good idea to have that many surgeries?

Sorry that I was not very clear with that. During my pre-op appointment I was speaking with my surgeon and asking every question I had read about on this site. While discussing what she would do if endo was found on my appendix, she decided that she should go ahead and remove my appendix during surgery no matter what. So, if it is not inflamed and does not have endo growing on it, she will still remove it. I was just wondering if any one else has had such a 'proactive' doctor when it comes to the surgery. I am ok with having it removed, not like I use it anyway, but I was just wondering if people think that is a good idea or if my doctor seems to be a little "trigger happy".

Not so sure why she would remove it if it didnt pose a threat i mean i know in the grand scheme of thnigs an appendix is useless but not sure why you would just remove it for the sake of removing it? I had a lot done all in one go, but it was necessary ive been told. Im not sure I would like them to remove things just beacuse they were already in there.
