OK, so, my doctor gave me the bowel prep that's a gallon jug...and I cannot get through it! I just can't. I've had almost half of it so far, it's definitely working, but every time I try to drink more, I gag. I don't know how much more I can force down myself. I didn't have to do this last time I had laparoscopy.
Am I in deep trouble if I can't finish more than half of it or so? I would love some advice from people who've done this before.

Just drink it! hold your nose or something it has to be done. If he wanted you to only drink half he would have told you that. Ive had a dozen of those things and compared to a barium swallow id do a bowel prep 10x over!

aaiiieeeee, I can't, I mean it. I really can't. I literally can't get any more of it into me. My throat is closing. And...not to be indelicate, but I think I've released everything that was in there. It's all just water now. It's going to be have to be it. Luckily, in the directions that came with the stuff, it says "drink until stool is clear". So...I'm just going to have to deal. I think it's OK, based on that instruction.
I will say, though, that a swig of apple juice after each disgusting gulp does help. This stuff tastes like bitter tears.

I also have to go through a bowel prep in november for my upcoming surgery. Although i dont have to drink a galloon of it... i have to drink half of whatever size bottle it is at 3pm and then the other half at 6pm. I have been told not to bother to move from the toliet. Ugh. after reading your story, im not too excited about my surgery anymore!!! Good luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dealing with the results on the other end was no problem - it was just drinking that crap that I couldn't stand. But when I went in for surgery, the doc and the nurses all said it was OK, as long as I got some of it down. What I did manage to ingest did the job. You know, nothing too crazy on the other end...I eat a pretty healthy diet, so it wasn't much. Just, um...I didn't realize salad took so long to digest! OK, sorry, couldn't resist. The surgery went *really* well. I'm in practically no pain right now, unless I cough or move too fast. I was so relaxed before surgery that the OR nurse thought I'd already had a sedative.
