Hi,
I haven't, but a friend has and she developed terrible headaches and numbness down one arm, which resulted in her being referred for a brain scan. Fortunately, she stopped the HRT and the problem vanished, so she never had to have the scan!
Recent studies in the UK have shown that HRT causes ovarian cancer.

Thanks Puddleduck... your post makes me a little more rattled now as i took my first pill today and the pamphlet for the medication says that it can cause breast cancer, ovarian cancer, dimentia and liver problems!! I showed my fiance but he always dismisses side effects as he thinks they are subjective and tries to make me think more positive about it... im sure it would be different if he was on it!
im quite afraid as i didnt know the severity of potentail side effects. its one thing after another hey!

Dementia. I think the frigging GnRH causes that anyway! I cannot honestly say whether it's the GnRH or the HRT that cause certain symptoms in me as I've always been on HRT with GnRH treatment.

Hi Cass, I wouldn't panic, since you've only taken one tablet! There are millions of poor women who have been on the stuff for ten years, only to have been told this year after research, that it has been responsible for many cases of ovarian cancer... One tablet is a drop in the ocean. When I was initially offered GnRH analogues, the specialist said that there was no need for any HRT with it. You might feel okay on the GnRH! If you have any side effects from the temporarily lowered oestrogen levels, there may well be other measures than can help. There are some practical ones as opposed to drug options: for example, if you have hot flushes, have you heard of the "Chillow"? It's a sort of pillow that stays cool (you get them in different sizes). For vaginal dryness, you can use "Replens" that's a vaginal moisture replacement that can be bought from the chemist. For insomnia, there are herbal teas such as valerian or "night time" varieties which help. (I've lived in the same house as my mum as she went through menopause, so you're reaping the benefits of the observations I've made of how she managed). Actually, she used black cohosh, and was never on HRT. (Hyst at 46). Her hot flushes were pretty minimal. Wishing you well.

I think there's a vital difference between the actual menopause and GnRH, as GnRH can give extreme symptoms, that's why Cass has gone on HRT. All doctors I have spoken to have said that GnRH without HRT had side effects that outweigh potential side effects from the HRT itself. I wouldn't dream of going it alone. Hats off to you Cass. It's worth remembering that the effects are induced and come on quickly, as opposed to the various experiences women have on menopause where the symptoms would come on more gradually. I found my last episode on GnRH was hard to cope with even with HRT and even having had bad side effects on various pills before. Cass I think it's harder for you as a good natural diet with plenty of raw fruit and veg has given me relief, but of course you are still on low residue. When are you next reviewing your diet. Did they say how it'd take to get back to being able to have 5 a day?

Just to give you a little update... the HRT has worked a treat! the night sweats were getting uncontrollable as were the migraines and the hot flushes! I started it about 1.5 months ago and it has eliminated all those nasty side effects. im no longer an emotional wreck and cry at the drop of a dat which is great!
