Hi ladies!
I had laparascopy and an endometrial ablation on Tuesday. The dr. suspected adenomyosis and was absolutely correct. He said my uterus was the size of a 2.5 month pregnancy! He did not find any endo or adhesions outisde of my uterus so that's good I guess. There is some scarring on my bladder, however, from my 3 c's. He said the size of my uterus is pushing/pulling/putting pressure on my bladder which makes sense. He feels that I'll need a hyst sometime down the road since the size of my uterus will never go back to "normal". Anyway....I guess I was surprised that I feel worse today than yesterday...is that your expreience too? I also have not had a bm and I think that is making things worse. My ultimate question, though, is about the demerol he sent me home on....it has made it so that I have to strain HARD to pee - and I think that is making me hurt worse. Blah. Anyone here with that experience? Suggestions? They made it sound like they wanted me off the demerol by now - but it hurts for Pete's sake! I'll try to go to just 800 mg. Ibuprofen - but if that doens't stop it - I"m back to the demerol. Oh, and the sore throat - if I didn't suspect the pain was from the tube they stuck down my throat - I would think I had strep - much worse pain today...and on top of that woke up to discover my 3.5 year old is running a fever of 102! Ack. help. Thoughts? MMT

Hello, It's sounds like you been having a rough time. I haven't had a lap on my abdomen so I can't help you there but I have some suggestions on how to help your bms. Most strong pain meds can cause contisapation, Talk to you doctor adout using some laxtives, Because if your bowels are full it could put pressure on your organs causing more pain and discomfort. Hope this helps, But make sure you talk to your Doctor before taking anything. To Make sure that it is o.k to take with any other meds you are on. Feel better!!

Long lasting local anethetics were likely injected down there, and you are probably still just numb. It will likely wear off over the next few days. The sore throat is also most likely from the tube that was stuck down your throat. I had sore throats both times, but the second time I came prepared with a spray bottle of Chloroseptic (spelling?). Sorry about your kid having a fever that high! No fun to have to deal with that when you're in pain yourself.

BTW, are you supposed to take him to the hospital if his temp is that high? ??

Thanks for the replies...
My dh took him to his pediatrician who, as suspected, said it was a "virus of unknown origin"...in other words - they have no clue but it wasn't an obvious strep or sinus infection. I certainly consider that a high temp...but around here dr.'s laugh at you if you call that high...they don't even flinch unless it's 104 - and by that time I'm coming unglued. :lol MMT

WOW! When I was younger, anything 102 or above meant a trip to the E.R. to rule-out meningitis, etc. I'm going to be so scared when I have a baby! I'll be paranoid and freaking out at the peds!

I know what you mean....my kids are spaced apart rather non-conventionally. Our oldest (dd) is 22, our middle (dd) is almost 13 and our youngest (ds) is 3.5! The way dr.'s treat kids now is vastly different than when our oldest was a baby. They don't even consider your child to have a "fever" unless it's 101.4 now....can you believe that?

Oh, I meant to say, too, that when I look up the demerol - it lists urinary retention as a side effect.....but I haven't had any since 8 pm last night and I'm still having trouble though not as bad...hmmmm....

That's mad. My friend just had a baby, and her ped. told her not to even call for an appointment unless she takes the temp. analy and the baby still has a fever! LOL! That's wild.
Ah. It's good that everything is wearing off, whatever it is. I know I had a hard time telling whether or not I had to pee after both laps, and I only had demerol before my second one to enjoy the feeling. LOL. My first lap I didn't have any Dem, and I still had trouble telling. I felt like I had to let gravity cause me to pee! Just sit there and let it drip out. That was w/ no Dem. involved.

My 'niece's' pediatrician said that how a baby is acting is the bigger indication of whether something is wrong than their temperature. If the baby is lethargic, and (s)he doesn't get better after taking baby Tylenol (for example), then there's probably a problem and the baby needs to go to the doctor. If they just have a fever but are acting completely normal, then they're probably fine. Babies have a MUCH higher threshold for fevers than adults. The pediatrician said she has babies in all the time who have temps of 106 (which would fry an adult's brain) who act normal and they're fine, but she has other babies with temps of 100 (not high AT ALL) who are lethargic and it turns out they have meningitis or some other serious illness.
