Hi, I used to eat carob alot when i was younger as i had a dairy allergy (its pretty much gone now though). I used to like it, but i haven't had it in a long time.
I think you need to try it not expecting it to taste like chocolate! Because it really doesn't! But its not unpleasant, it has a unique taste which you can become quite used to. I don't remember brands or anything, but maybe try it to start with as a fruit/nut covering, that way there's another taste mixed in with it. Or just ask at the place you buy it if the seller has tried it/can reccomend a nice one.
Can you eat white chcolate?

Totally agree with Rach. It is no substitute for chocolate in taste (although you can use it as a substitute in recipes). I don't like it nearly as well as chocolate, but if I stop trying to compare the two then it is not so bad.

The other day in my supermarket i saw a rice cake (rice cracker type thing, made out of puffed rice) covered with carob and thought i'd give it a go. It was not bad, not chocolately though. But it was a yummy snack. Did you get around to trying some jamierenee?

I am VERY new to this web site and so far have found it helpful. I thought I would put in my two cents. Honestly, I think carob is pretty good. Once you have gone so long without eating real chocolate, the fake stuff is a real treat! I'm not sure how many people have actually bought the cookbook from this site, but there is a recipe in there for hot chocolate, of course using carob powder instead. I like it. By the way, what brand are those rice cakes? I'd like to try them.
