I had a laparoscopy 3 days ago. Everything went ok, I woke up from the anesthesia a bit high but I 'landed' within the hour and felt remarkably well. First day after surgery I was a little dizzy still but not too bad and I was still on painkillers so it could have to do with that too. Though it was just paracetamol and an NSAID, so nothing too strong or exotic. But I took the last NSAID on Thursday evening and I feel worse then just after surgery! (it's Saturday afternoon now). Shouldn't I be getting BETTER instead of worse!? The main problem is that I feel so not myself. I can't follow myself; my thoughts are weird, I have to concentrate really hard to move normally, I hear myself talking but it doesn't seem to be me. And I feel a sort of flowing sensation in my legs, arms and back. As if I am floating on something when I'm lying down. It is freaking me out to be honest and driving me mad at the same time. Can this be the aftermath of the anesthesia? Anyone else with this sort of experience? How long did it last? Did you do anything specific to get back to normal? Thanx for any advise!!

Oh yeah, I forgot, the results of the lap were pretty ok. Endo on back and front of womb. Doc didn't mention a stage, I wasn't clear enough to ask for it. I've seen the pictures and it didn't look as bad as some pictures I've seen. Just those blackish dots spread over the womb. Have the next appointment at the end of the month to discuss the next steps. Best news was that tubes are open en no endo anywhere near the ovaries or tubes. HURRAY! I was afraid this area would be messed up after having had a massive acute followed by a chronic infection of the womb and ovaries a few years ago. I feel really lucky with my clean and functioning eggfactory!!
First worry now is to stop feeling so damn far off the planet...

My doc told me that was totally normal. It can take a while to get it out of your system. I've been under four times, and each time it has been different. This time, it took a month to start feeling like myself, but I was under for three hours. And I'm still getting funky nerve feelings in my legs, but I had a full laparotomy, so I'm not surprised...
My biggest anesthesia issues were spaciness, 2am headaches every night for three weeks, panic attacks, and mood swings (although those my be hormonal). Recovering from it was harder than dealing with the incision!
Take it easy, drink lots of water, and feel better!!!!!

Hi there, I've found that it takes 2-3 months for the after-effects of the anaesthetic to wear off fully. In my case I had fatigue and "blues". It sounds very much as though you've been over-anaesthetised. On your pre-op form, you will have been asked to give your weight in kilos/pounds. Then they work out the dose of anaesthetic based on weight. So if you've estimated your bodyweight or have used old or inaccurate scales to weigh yourself and therefore put yourself down as heavier than you are in reality, you may have received too much anaesthetic.

Thanks, it helps to hear your stories. I went to bed extremely early yesterday and I'm feeling a bit better. Small steps. Will drink more!
I did lose a kg of weight in between pre-op and operation and I was too skinny before that already so that may have something to do with it... Good to know.
Wow Leisa, you had some rough rides there. Thanks for sharing and hope you will feel 100% again soon!!
