just wondering what form of exercise you have found most beneficial in pain management? i am thinking yoga, pilates and the like, but would appreciate hearing what has worked for you.
TIA

I used to be at the gym 6 days a week for 90mins a time and i did that during my most painful phase. after my surgery ive barely been luck to get there once every 2 months.
i tried yoga on Monday and my bowels were so painful the following day. i went to the gym last night and walked on the treadmill and im in pain again as a result. i really hope this is not a permanent thing argh!

Hi,
I find swimming helpful, because the bodyweight is supported by the water. I can rarely go swimming because of my skin condition. Horseriding would probably be a good option, too (if the possibility exists in your area) because of minimal impact on the pelvis.

I agree with the girls...since my surgery (Sept) I haven't been able to traditionally work out because my abdomen begins cramping and I have break through bleeding. I recommend riding horses if possible...it almost acts as an internal massage and def swimming. There's no impact! I'd try just walking as well. I know these aren't fantastic options, but it's been the only thing some of us can manage! I'd looking into trying yoga, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to handle all the stretching. We'll see! Good luck

Hi I have tried all kinds of exercise. Yoga all that stretching made me hurt, walking I couldn't make it a block, swimming felt good while in the water, but later I'd pay for it. I used to do Pilate's before I got sick it was great, now I can't get through 5 mins of it. I haven't found any that works for me, but everyone is different, try starting out slow and see what works for you. Good luck, hope you find the right exercise for you.

Hi Kika, I do yoga 2 to 4 times a week for about 45 minutes and I love it. When I'm in pain I don't have the energy to do anything thus far but when it's not that bad I find yoga to be very soothing. I do adapt my yoga schedule to how I feel. I've been doing yoga for over 3 years now, since before I got my endo pains so maybe that makes a difference. When I just started I had sore muscles as well because I just wasn't used to the poses. If this would come on top of endo pains I'm not suer how I would like it. But specially the deep breathing to my belly give it a sort of massage and relaxes the area. Works for me! I go for a run once or twice a week for about 30 minutes as well, but this I do notice later on. I go running in the morning because then I feel my best but I usually pay with back and belly aches in the afternoon. I still go though because I feel that letting my stamina drop will not do me any good either. Oh, but if I feel halfway that my energy levels drop too low I stop running and just walk. It took me some time to recognize the breaking point though. For the rest I plan to go to the gym again to gain some weight, but I haven't managed to go yet... If I don't feel good enough to do sports I just don't do it and give myself a break. I used to beat myself up over not being though enough but since I've stopped doing that it's easier to get through these rough days. My advice would be to try out something that appeals to you and always listen to your body and be happy with every thing you can do and do, even if it's only small.
I'm curious to know what you choose in the end and how it went!
Susanne
