For the past two or three weeks i've noticed that i have started to get pins and needles in my fingers and they become really numb. This mostly happens when i wake up in the morning or up to an hour after.
I have been checked for Anemia but the results have come back fine..
Does anyone else get this ?

Sounds like nerve compression. Could it be carpal tunnel?

You might try getting a splint-type wrist brace with a metal spoon inside. They work pretty well to straighten out everything and relieve the nerve.

I've just read about carpal tunnel and the symptoms are very much like the ones i am getting. Also my dad has had 2 ops on his wrist a few years back as he was also suffering with his fingers falling asleep. Could this be hereditary ?

No idea. Mostly, it's just due to over-use. Do you type a lot?

Hi Gemini, Have you had a blood test to check your B12 and folate levels? I have had pins and needles and numbness in arms, hands, spine, groin and feet. Two years ago I began having vitamin B12 injections (because I had a low vitamin B12 level. In some people this is accompanied by low folate (when it's called pernicious "per-nish-us" anaemia), or it can happen if you're vegan or have malabsorption due to bowel or stomach disease. In my case, I have a deficiency but am neither vegan nor have pernicious anaemia. It's a long story. Too long for here! Basically, I'm still awaiting a final diagnosis and am in Limboland. However, there may be a simple explanation in your case. For example, if you use a laptop or mouse constantly, you may be straining your wrists and causing nerve entrapment. In this case, you need to buy a tilt pad to put the laptop at an angle and avoid straining your wrists. All the best.

I've had so many blood tests that i've lost count. They always do a Full Blood Count..does this include everything ?
I do use a laptop but i am not typing for hours on end..since i've joned this forum i've been spending more time online..
Thanks for the info puddleduck..if it continues i'll mention the B12 and folate levels to my doc..

Hi,
Full blood count doesn't include B12 and folate. These have to be requested separately. The other thing to consider is that if you're taking a folic acid supplement, it can lower your B12 level and cause pins and needles (and bring on subacute combined degeneration of the cord).
xx

Yes, subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord. It doesn't happen in women who are taking folic acid for a few months prior to becoming pregnant! But if someone is on folic acid for longer, without having a folate deficiency, it can lead to low B12 and problems.

this was a concern for me too. i get pins and needles in my feet all the time to the point where i would have to kick it hard against something or pinch it really hard to make sure i still have feeling in them! sometimes i have gone to get up and fallen over cause they are numb from pins and needles. Occasionally i get the in my hands as well. I think i might mention it next time too it seems rather strange!

Talk to your GP about it, i have a similar thing in my hands that shoots up my arms. When i talked to my GP he told me it was carpal tunnel, he also told me i have enough problems and to forget about it for now, lol, glad he can see that.
I wore a wrist guard to bed for a while and am taking a B complex plus extra B6 and magnesium for endo problems really, but since i balanced that and am taking the maximum dose havent had any pain. Could be luck, coz ive heard it comes and goes, but i know since i did that it has gone away.
