PMT/PMS

Hiya just wanted to know if anyone suffers particularly bad PMT or PMS, or if anyone has any suggestions of how to alleviate the symptoms? I have noticed over the past few months, being completely free of artificial hormones, that I have been completely nuts around my periods, and it's getting worse every month! I cry at the drop of a hat and am sooo sensitive in the week before I menstruate, have crazy mood swings in the days leading up to and all through my period. and I snap at everything and everyone. I just get very impatient and angry and everything annoys me. the passage of time annoys me and everyone gets told off! It's not the pain, cos when I'm in pain I keep to myself and make sure I am nice to everyone (partly cos they are helping me but I also don't wanna be like my mum) I take lots of evening primrose and other good quality supplements, on top of an improved diet. I don't wnna see the doctor cos he'll probably want me to go back on the pill. Anyone else get this way, do you have any tips? xx

PMT/PMS

yes yes yes.
The PMS is sometimes as bad as the period, emotionally, at least. I get tender breasts, cramping, headaches, cravings, grouchy, mean, sad, and even tingly skin. Its awful. As soon as I start bleeding, the world is a rosier place, but I am also incapacitated by cramps...
When my period is over I have a huge surge of what I call happy hormones, and the world and all of life is suddenly a gorgeous place.
The last few months though have been very even keeled. In terms of PMS. The cramps are a different story but I don't have nearly the extremes - which quite honestly was/is a bit disappointing - I miss those happy hormones, it is something to help me get through the cramps! My (body-psycho) therapist says this is a "trauma survivor" reaction - that the kind of pain we experience with endo and the hormonal swings our bodies endure is traumatic- physically and emotionally (maybe spiritually too!)
anyway, I think for me it is the acupuncture, mostly, and to some degree the diet. The therapy is tremendous in terms of dealing with all of the changes and becoming aware of my body's responses and then making choices instead of having reactions.
I don't know if this helps...

Hi Ladies! I'm not sure what PMT is but PMS - ya I thought I had it the worst!! I start getting moody and irritated about 2 weeks before my period and for about a week after. My hormones are so out of whack though... and they put me on anti depressants to help minimize it. I don't even want to try and imagine what I'd be like if I wasn't on the anti -depressants!! Now that I'm at home, I am able to take baths and such to make myself feel better whenever I need to. I am the worst for food cravings too... and nothing can stop me from having what I crave! Its different every month too!! This probably doesn't help you much Cherry, but atleast you know your not alone!

I forgot to mention:
"Female Toner" tea by Traditional Medicinals - very good for irritability and prickly creepy crawly skin!

Yep yep, get terrible PMS/PMT or whatever people wanna call it.
I call it an absolute nuisance, the only good thing about it is i can blame it for bad moods, but only if i blame it, if someone else does they better watch out, lol.
Mood swings, bloating, headaches, tender breasts, etc.
I have found an improvement since ive been on vitex, EPO, and magnesium, vit E, but would not say gone, and it still drives me mad. Oh i also think a liver herb helps, i use chicory and dandelion tea, i do know that alcohol consumption definitely makes mine worse.
Part of the joys of being a woman.

I didn't suffer from any PMS/PMT symptoms at all (except for sore boobs) until about a year ago - the same time my endo symptoms showed up.
Now I get really irritable and grouchy for about a week before my period, and I almost always have at least 2 major fights with my husband around this time when I know I'm being irrational but I just can't do anything about it - it's not nice at all. The day my period arrives I get really depressed and I just generally feel weird, like kind of out of body and not myself at all. I know some of these feelings are because I'm ttc and obviously the arrival of my period means no success that month, but I'm also sure the feelings are related to PMS/hormones/endo? It's just weird the way I never had any of this until I started getting endo symptoms.
I should clarify - I've always had painful periods but I always thought that was normal, so when I talk about getting endo symptoms I mean the crippling bent-over double nearly passing out stuff.

Pre menstrual tension.
Its the same thing, just a different term, i have no idea why there are 2 terms. I think some countries use one and others another (I think, dont quote me, lol)
Im pretty sure in Oz the correct term is PMT, but most people use PMS coz it seems to be the term all know.
I think both terms are garbage anyway, coz it leads people to believe that its just mood swings, its not, its meant to be a term for a whole range of symptoms, so when i claim i never used to get it, not true, just never used to get the mood swings, always got the bloating and sore breasts.

Ah I see! Thanks kb! that makes so much more sense now! I had never heard the term PMT before... I have to agree with you too though about the terms being garbage!! Not to mention the fact that I'm pretty sure there are a lot of things we experience that wouldn't even be classified as PMT/PMS but are directly related!! And you know how you mentioned the part about 'i never used to get it'? have you ever had the PMS pains you do have change every month? Like one month it would be sore breats, the next its your back, the next its acne? know what I mean?

I definitely notice things change each month Angelas, now that I have more symptoms. Like you say, one month my boobs will be really, really sore, then the next month hardly at all but my back will be sore and I'll be dead tired, etc.

Yeah it varies, dont always get sore breasts, but that ones the most common, dont always get moody, acne is a standard, but worse some months than others.
Dont know what that means though, why it would change from month to month, i guess it just proves even more how out of whack our bodies are.

Thats my thought exactly!! I have done a ton of reading on this stuff and cannot find any answers that explain why things are so unpredictable in the PMS department! Just when I think I can control the mood swings and say 'ok, next time this happens, I will not act this way'... and it doesn't matter! its like every month is like getting PMS for the first time!!

Mine is changeable too, the only thing that seems to always happen is that a couple of days before, I get a strong wave of tiredness, and I wonder where it came from, and then it clicks.

there are definitley things that have been sticking around for the last few months. I try to keep an eye on it all by writing it down. I haven't had many surprises in a while... but I think this month its my moods... they are all over the place!! Even though I try to make a concious effort in controlling them, it really is hard since most of the time I don't really notice until after the fact!

It would be better if PMS stood for Pre Menstrual Symptoms.
