Hi. I'm new to this board but I could use ANY advice you have. I an a healthy 45 year old RN that had a partial hyster 2 years ago for excessive bleeding. Last Thursday I awoke and doubled over in pain that I have NEVER had before. I thought it was possibly a bladder spasm although I had never had one the location of the pain was right .I crawled to the toilet and peed (sorry) but got no relief. I crawled back to bed and layed in the fetal position for hours until the pain got a little better. All day I did nothing but lay around. I even ate a small bowl of spaghetti for dinner. I slept fairly well but woke up Friday with the same thing only this time I was sweaty and pale. My husband took me to the ER and the doctor couldn't even examine me because I was so tender right around my belly button and a little toward the right. A stat CT showed a 5cm cyst on my LEFT ovary (pain is more on right) so they wanted to transfer me to the local womans hospital. They thought I was possibly bleeding into the cyst. A general surgeon came in and did a sono that showed only the cyst but he said he would like to do a laproscope to look around and even if my appendix was normal take it out. He was very honest and said that he may not be able to make the pain better but he would find out what was causing it. Well my appendix was normal but as soon as he put the scope in he saw I was "full of endo implants". I have pictures. I am seeing a gyne on Friday about my options. I do not want to take hormones. That is the reason I had the hyster in the first place. Can anyone advise me on other options I have. I want to go into the appointment knowledgeable. Thanks for any help!!

My reply, copied/pasted from the other thread you started yesterday, exact title as this one
"I also had my appendix out during my last lap. It was all flipped up and backwards and glued on to my cecum w/ endo.
If you have an ovarian cyst, unfortunately, birth control pills are the best way to treat that, by stopping ovulation (preventing other cysts from forming) and allowing the existing cysts to shrink.
You might try diet. I know with PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), a lot of times an insulin problem, so sometimes an insulin-resistance diet helps (basically a diabetic diet).
You also might try seeing a naturopath.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum"

Did the surgeon remove any of the implants? That's generally the first step, get it all out and then do what you can to slow the progression of the disease. Unless you have an outstanding doctor, the only options you will be given other than surgery are hormonal treatments. Many people do not find these treatments to be successful so I can completely understand why you would not want to do it, but your only other options are to see a naturopath or take matters into your own hands by researching natural treatments. There is a section on this forum devoted to alternative treatments and another devoted to diet (and another devoted to progesterone cream, which won't work by itself but can be helpful combined with other things). Please go and read some posts on those forums and ask questions if you have any. You'll find a lot of information there based on what people have been trying.

Also, did you have polycysts or just a cyst? Every month, we ovulate actually by a cyst (egg) rupturing. Was this cyst just a monthly ovulation cyst?

I have a question about the appendix pain and instead of starting a new threat I found this one that some how is related... Anyway I've been having pain on my Right side, lower area, including hips, lower back (right side) and going to my right legs... It is hard for me to stand still for more that 5-10 minutes since the pain gets worst and I do have to sit or walk...sitting, walking, and even hiking all is fine but standing still is the worst. My last period that started this past Friday came and the pain on my right side was worst that usual, almost went to the ER but I didn't. The pain is like if I have a knife stack on there. Today is my 4th day and my endo pain is better but the pain on the side still there (less but still there). Has anyone experience this type of pain? Anyone with appendix issues recognized this symptoms? Thanks

I had my appendix removed, bc during both laps, it was found flipped up and glued to another part of my intestine. The pain for me felt extremely sharp like a knife, but being as how it was on my appendix, the pain was centralized to the area right where my appendix was, 1/2-way diagonally between the belly button and the inguinal ligament. After I had the endo on my appendix lasered the first time, the pain went away...then it came back. During my last lap I had my appendix removed. ...Pain has been gone now for over a year...hope I don't jinx myself!
Oh. If you are having pain radiating to your legs, you might have endo on your uterosacral ligaments. You can do a search and find an entire thread...actually two...dedicated to leg pain.

Yes I will check all these symptoms with the specialist and see if he can check the appendix with an ultrasound or something.

Thanks ouchy. So they just decided to remove your appendix during the lap? none test were done that pointed a problem with the appendix? I have to do a blood and urine test that my family doctor ordered maybe something could come up there, like white cell count, etc...

Well, I had been having localized pain during my periods right there where my appendix was...I thought it was my right ovary. During my lap, endo was found all over the appendix--and none on my ovary (Thank goodness!). I scared my doc. by writing "DO NOT REMOVE ANY REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS!!!" on my consent forms, and even though the appendix is NOT a reproductive organ, I think he was scared to remove it, so he just lasered it. Needless to say, the next lap I had, the endo was back on the appendix, but this time flipped it up and glued it on to my cecum (part of intestine just above appendix). Prior to the second lap, though, I discussed having my appendix remove (as the symptoms were back, localized again to the same area). I saw a general surgeon who coordinated w/ my gyne., and I had both surgeries on the same day. Wound up being a bit of a snafu, about which you can read in the thread here in reply #3. --> cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=surgery&action=display&thread=1154885378&page=1To answer your questions, though, I did have a physical before my lap--and an ultrasound and HIDA scan (for gall bladder) and some other gall bladder test. Nothing showed anything wrong w/ my appendix, but it almost required emergency surgery right there during the scheduled lap--as it was sooooo adhered to the cecum and almost too difficult to remove!

Thanks for the info! I will be making an appointment to see my specialist and discuss all these since my period is gone and still some pain on my right side that affects also my sleep. I have a feeling that could be endo-appendix related.

Good luck! Keep us posted. I wish my gyne. would have just taken out the appendix the first time. Definitely something to discuss.

About seven months ago I had appendicitis and it almost burst. And let me tell you. Appendix pain is much different from endo pain I found. Or at least it was for me. It was much of an urgent pain.. if that made sense. Like I definitely knew it wasn't endo. If that helps any of you.
