On February 6 I had an endometrial ablation to help my heavy bleeding and lengthy periods. The dr. cited no endo or adhesions - but said my uterus was the size of a 2.5 month pregnant lady from adenomyosis. Oooook. On February 22 (yes, just last Thursday) my urologist when in to remove what he thought was a urethral cyst - when he got in there - it turns out it was just "extra skin" at the top of my vagina. What? Huh? I know I should have asked more questions - but I was just so taken aback when the dr. told me that that I coudl not think. He removed it and the path report came back fine. I dont' understand why the first dr. didn't see it. I also don't understand if he meant the "extra skin" was on the top of the outside or the inside of the vagina....?
What I'm getting to is this: For the past 3-4 nights I've been having AWFUL night sweats. I don't get a little hot....I mean I wake up feeling like someone poured water on me - especially on my thighs.....oh, but the back of my neck...lower back too. Ewwwwy. My hormone tests I had done prior to all this do not indicate pre-meno....but I'm wondering if these surgeries could have catapulted me into meno or some sort of pseudo-meno? I'm grasping at straws. Oh, before the night sweats - I was having night hot flashes for several weeks. Anyway - I'm stumped - sorry this is so long. Any thoughts? MMT

MMT If you were in a pseudo-menopause or early menopause, your hormone tests should have shown it. Were the tests done recently?

The tests were done in October of last year - and I just had my surgeries in the last 2.5 weeks. I was just wondering if they could have made my body "think" it's in meno....I guess a hormone imbalance? Just a thought...MMT

Ok. If your surgeries would have caused a fake menopuase 2.5 weeks ago, your tests back in October wouldn't have any revelation. It sounds more likely that if your period is late, you probably were just under stress about the surgeries during the first part of your period, which could have caused a delayed period by delaying ovulation. If you haven't had your period in quite a while, you should take a pregnancy test or call your doctor for more hormone testing.

Sorry - I guess I should include more info. I don't think I'm pregnant - in fact I know I'm not....I had a tubal in '03 - cut/tied/burned! :lol
I guess the reason I felt the hormone tests were relevant is that they would set the baseline.
I don't know if the bleeding I'm having now is a true period - or post-surgical bleeding. My dr. told me I could bleed for up to 12 weeks after the ablation - but that would not be a "true" period.
I'm just stumped by these night sweats and was wondering if there was a "pseudo-meno"...

It is good that you do have the tests from Oct. as a baseline. You are right about using them as a baseline.
I'm curious, though...are there other symptoms you are having other than hot flashes, etc. that make you think you might be in a pseudo-menopause? Have your periods been irregular in the year or so leading up to now? If you have concerns, call your doc. and request new hormone tests that can be compared to your old results, although the old results aren't really needed; they have hormone value ranges for diagnosing early menopause, but it's always good to compare.
If this is just the first time you are having a weird period or bleeding from the surgery, I doubt you are in a pseudo-menopause.

Well, prior to the ablation my periods would come every 28-32 days - but I would bleed for 9-12 days - heavy...that went on for over a year. The only other symptom I get is occasional hot flashes - but I just chalked that up to the hormone injections that my previous dr. gave me in October and November trying to fix the problems with my period...I'm stumped - but plan to call the dr. in the a.m.
