About two months before I had my hysterectomy my fiance got me a kitten.....Her name is Lana Rae and I love her to pieces....Maybe some of you can relate if you do not have children but have a pet.....She is my baby since I did not have children....Anyway she went into heat twice and they were the worst nights....Howling all night long....We decided to have her fixed so I took her to the vet this morning and dropped her off and almost cried the whole way home.....Right now I am waiting for the vet to call and say that she is done and doing okay......Just wanted to let off a little stress.....Hopefully some of you can relate....Keep your fingers crossed that all goes well for Lana and I will keep you informed.......Thanks! Andie

I understand how you feel, I have two cats and they're just like children! One of my cats is getting sick in his old age and I always worry about him. When I'm at work I always wish I could call home and check on him! Right now he's dozing in a pile of catnip using a book for a pillow. I'm sure your kitten will be ok, cats seem to do better with the hysterectomy operation than people do! I'm sure she'll be glad not to have to go into heat anymore--it does seem to make them miserable.
If you want to hear a funny story related to cats--one time, when I had just turned 13, my oldest sister was visiting from North Carolina (I live in Illinois). Since it was going to be a long visit she brought her two kittens with her. One of her kittens, Sugar, went into heat during teh visit. Because I only had male cats, I had never seen a cat in heat and had no idea what it was like. I was alone the first time I saw Sugar acting strangely. She was acting distressed and kept rubbing her face on the floor. I had read a story in school not long ago that described a dog doing that because he was choking, so I thought immediately that Sugar must be choking. I picked her up, held her firmly in her lap, and pried her mouth open, but I couldn't find anything that she was choking on. Later when I told my mother and sister what had happened, they laughed at me and explained she was in heat. The poor cat must have thought I was insane for prying her mouth open like that! Anyway, it just emphasized to me how important it is to get cats spayed if you're not planning on breeding them, because I don't think it's much fun for them otherwise!
