I don't know if anyone here can help me with this, but I don't know who else to ask. Yesterday I started having pain in my right breast. The pain got progressively worse as the day went on, and is still pretty bad today. The breast feels somehow stiffer than the other breast, and the pain seems to be concentrated directly under the nipple, where there is a hard spot. This has never happened to me before, and the hard spot and stiffness werne't there before yesterday. The hard spot is what hurts--when I press on it it really hurts and I think that's what's causing the pain. But what's causing that? I wonder if any of you have had similar symptoms or have any idea what might be causing them. I have done internet searches on sore breasts and haven't found anything overly helpful. I'm well past puberty so it isn't that, it's nothing to do with cyclical pain (I do get sore breasts before my period, but it's both of them, it's never this bad, it's never concentrated in one spot, and besides I just recently got off my period), and I am most certainly not lactating. It sort of seems like mastitis, but that is so unlikely in my case since I'm not breastfeeding. The right nipple (that's teh sore one) does feel a little warmer than the left, but it's not a major difference. I don't think I have a fever, it's hard to say because I always ahve a low-grade fever though. A friend of mine said she'd heard polycystic breasts sometimes go along with endometriosis, so I tried to do a search on that to see what the symptoms were but I came up with nothing but stuff about polycystic OVARIES. If anyone could tell me any information at all I would greatly appreciate it.

I also have polycystic breasts and endo......... Hhmmmmmmm....... I have experienced a lot of pain at times, but usually bilaterally and not so specific an area as you describe. I would not let that go too long without seeing your dr. Feel better.

My first birth control pill, Ortho Tri-Cyclen, caused me to have fibrocystic breast lumps. I switched pills and the lumps quit hurting so much. The pain from the lumps came back w/ my last pill, Lo/Ovral, after a year on it. I know you are not on the pill right now, erzulie, but I sometimes get the flare-ups right around ovulation and again before my period. Check out a search on fibrocystic, instead of polycystic.
The best thing I have found for my pain from the fibrocysts is wearing a good support bra.

That's probably what my friend meant to. I'm not ovulating yet though, so I don't know if that's what it is. Yesterday and today the pain has been very very minor. As of yesterday I still felt like there was a hard lump right there, but I think it's just my mammory gland. It feels like my mammory gland is swollen. Today, it feels almost back to normal, so whatever was wrong I think it's getting better. I am still leaning towards thinking I had an infection in there (that is thankfully clearing up on its own). I realize that is very rare in women who are not lactating, but it does happen. It could also have been a cyst that is now disappearing but I really didn't feel like tehre was a separate lump other than my mammory gland. I almost called the doctor yesterday but since the pain was subsiding I decided to give it a little more time, which I think was a good idea otherwise I probably would have just had to cancel to appointment.
