I seriously need to vent about the clueless management I have the great misfortune to have to deal with on a regular basis.
First off I have some great supervisors but anyone above them I could do without! At my work if you have any significant sick time upper management brings you in for a meeting. I work in a union environment so we have the option of having our union present at these meetings. I always have a union rep there. I don't pay my union dues for nothing!
So in the meeting management goes over your sick time and if you have had an unusual amount of sick time they start you on a attendance program.
Attendance program stage 1. They tell you that you have had some sick time, ( duh !) and they tell you that over the next 3 months they will be monitoring you attendance, and after 3 months they will set up another meeting.
Attendance program stage 2. 3 months later they drag you down for another meeting. If you attendance has improved your off the hook any everything goes back to normal. If it hasn't you move on to stage 2. Which is where I am at now. In stage 2 you have to bring in a doctors note but not a regular one they provide you with a special form, for every sick day you have. A doctor has to complete the form and you have to hand it in before you can come back to work. My management doesn't even see the form, they are not allowed to. I work in a hospital and the goes to my occupational heath department where nurses look it over, then the nurse calls my department to let them know I you are cleared to go back to work. Management claims that the want the notes to make sure that I'm o.k to work. That is complete bulls#%t they want to make sure that I'm not faking it.
To get those forms filled out by a doctor isn't cheap either. A doctor in a walk in clinic charged $30.00 on time. $30.00 for not even 5 minutes writing. My work will reimburse me but thats not the point , doing this is a major pain in the ass. My family doctor sends the bill straight to my work and I don't have to pay anything so I try to see her to get the form filled out.
Now my family doctor is on a leave of absence and at first I tried to go to a walk in clinic to get the note and I have had doctors refuse to fill it out for me, because they don't know the history surrounding the problem and they tell me to have my family doctor fill it out. HELLO that's why I'm here because I can't see my family doctor right now moron!!!
So I tell my manager all of that and she said It was o.k and I could bring in the forms when my doctor gets back and If I have anymore sick time to call her and she will let my come back without the note. I thought it was great my manager was being understanding. Boy was I wrong. I called her today because I didn't come into work on Monday and told her that my family doctor is still off and if I could still come in and work my shift tonight. She said "what your family doctor still isn't back" Like she didn't believe me. Hey I'll give you her number and you can listen to her voice mail message that states she is still not in her office, but she did ask so I didn't offer. My manager said I could come back to work but if I had any more sick time and I no choice but to bring in a doctors note because this has been going on for to long. You think I don't realize that. Wow thanks for your understanding. So if my family doctor isn't available I will have to browbeat a walk in clinic doctor to fill out that stupid form, like I really need that added stress.
I am so frigging ticked off. I have been trying to work as much as I can but a lot of the time I just physically can't do it. My job is very physical, a lot of walking and heavy lifting and if I'm in pain and not feeling well I just can't do it. My bosses don't understand this because they have never done my job. I wish I could trade places with management, make them feel the way I feel and then have the try to do what I have to do at work. All they do is sit in their nice offices and try figure out the best way for us to do our jobs without trying to do the job themselves to see what works best.
I'm sure they have gone threw my work record and have seen that I have had a lot of sick time over the years. Two of my biggest bouts of sick time was because of work place injuries. I had to have shoulder surgery because of one of them.
I will be having a attendance meeting soon and I will be hard pressed not to lose it on them.
People reading this will probably wonder why does she stay, well i love my job and my co-workers and make damn good money too! I just can't stand my management.
Feel free to post any comments of stories of your own because I know I am not the only one who has to deal with crap like this.
