yeah i have to agree some doctors are disgraceful as is their failure to investigate. im currently making complaints about the one that i seen and had to demand a referral to a gynae after telling him it cant be IBS. I got the hospital report today which says that my GP should have investigated it and he didnt im so MAD!!!

I am also going to ask to be referred to a gyn. I just think a specialist is the only way to find out exactly what's going on.

yes through my own personal experience demanding a referral and seeing a specialist is the only way to know for sure. after nearly 6 or 7 years i thought it was all in my head as did the majority of doctors i trusted! failure to investigate my symptoms further led me to demanding a referral which in turn proved i wasn't nuts and confirmed stge 4 endo. it is so frustrating and in hindsight i wish i had of done it earlier! even if it doesnt show anything atleast you have covered all bases. best of luck

The one thing you must be careful of is the bad doctor referring you to one of his/her friends who also might be another bad one. Just be prepared that the doctor to whom you are referred might not be your godsend . Fingers crossed, but just be prepared. Sometimes it is a long road to find a good doc. Good luck! Keep us posted.

talking about incompetent doctors, my normal GP is off sick so there have been a variety of locums filling in. A small few have come up with such treasures as 'if you are too thin you should eat more' 'are you sure it is pain if you are not menstruating? it may be projected' (he thought i was making it up, even seeing that i now take voltarol and strong stomach tablets to counter the effects of the NSAIDs. And my gynae, what an arsehole. I cried when i was diagnosed just as an immediate reaction of shock and pain, even though i half expected it. He simply looked at me and smiled down at me 'why are you crying, there is nothing wrong' the accompanying nurse then piped up 'its not like you have cancer' after 5 minutes before i had asked the doctor to note down my family history of uterine cancer. Oh I could have slapped the pair of them. Never mind they had seen cases so bad that a hysterectomy was advised straight away, i was a girl who had seen the effects of endo in the short term but still devastating, I had my family history of cancer and endo in mind, and I just thought of all the misery that I could go through, the babies i wouldn't have. i needed a second to collect my thoughts, a reassuring word of 'but...' It was a split second thought and knee jerk reaction, but the response i was given broke my heart, so instead of composing myself the tears just flowed until i saw a friendly face, my boyfriend, an hour later. On a day like that, throw away remarks do not go down well!

I think doctors tend to forget the human aspect of it all. The emotions, thoughts and feelings. We almost appear to be yet another case in front of them, not necessarily a HUMAN. So they forget the bedside manner. Ever wondered how a doctor would feel if they were in our shoes and had someone just like them as their doctor?
