A lot of doctors seem to be bad about not taking their patients seriously. There are good doctors out there, you just have to find them. I think my gynecologist took me seriously. If your doctor isn't doing a good job just look for a new one, and keep looking if you have to until you find someone decent. It's a good idea to ask around first. Talk to every girl you know in your area about who she thinks is a good gynecologist, and then decide which one you'd like to try next. If you have good advice to go on it may actually be easy to get a good doctor.

Also with gynecologists its important to remember they can be good at certain things. My OB?GYN was new to me when I got pregnant. I LOVED him!!! After the baby is when all my problems started, he wasn't so good at any of that and I switched and found one that was. My point he was a GREAT OB and a CRAPPY Gyn. I agree keep looking if you aren't happy.
Also I used to be completely against nurse practicioners, I mean my insurance pays for the dr I want the dr. Then I saw the nurse pract. because dr wasn't available and I had a fever a week after a miscarriage. She is who got me on the track to discovering what was wrong. She ran a bunch of tests, then insisted I push gastro or gyno to find somethign out cause none of it was normal. So I now have faith in nurse pract. too.

I completely agree with you janet about nurse practitioners. My doctor has three NPs in his practice with him. They are all great!! They dont have the same attitude as doctors... they are just more "real" to me. I have one that I specifically ask for most visits because she is absolutely wonderful!! I feel like she listens to me and takes the time to talk to me and understand what I am going through. She always does whatever it takes to make me feel better and makes me feel a part of my treatment. I love my doctor, but talking to him just isnt the same. I only see him when I need surgery. Other than that, I feel like my NP is the best choice for me!! I also ask for the NP at my kids pediatrics office. It really upsets me when people turn their noses up when you say that you see an NP. I would rather see them any day over a doctor!!

I agree, I don't know why I didn't think of that in the first place. Lots of people prefer nurse practitioners to doctors. My first trip to the gynecology department I chose to see a nurse practioner because I thought she would probably listen to me better than a doctor would, but then I ended up having to see a doctor to talk about surgery so in the end I may have just wasted time. I think it's still worth it to find a good gynecologist since you certainly want a good doctor doing your surgery, but for other things nurse practitioners can be as good or better. Another advantage is that it's faster to get in to see the nurse practioner.

erzulie~ dont get me wrong... I love my doctor!!! He has done both of my sugeries and he is great at what he does. I just feel that sometimes doctors are in such a hurry that they dont have the time that an NP has to spend with patients and I prefer the one on one time I have with my NP. But my doctor is wonderful!! Believe me, I saw plenty of awful gyn's in the last 6 years or so before I found him three years ago!! I feel blessed to have such a great team of medical professionals working with me on my endo!! Have a good day!!

I went to a few doctors in the past who did not listen to me and blow it off as nothing. All I can say is keep chugging on and meeting new doctors until you find someone who listens. I'm soo lucky I found a wonderful doctor who I justt LOVE. He actually listend to me and talk to me like a person, not like a doctor. He had compassion for what I was telling him. He did not say well take this and call me in 2 weeks, he actually told me that the next 2 weeks I would probably be sick of him becasue he was going to do a number of tests on me and that he was gonna figure out what is going on. If it wern't for him I would not have my daughter. He is the greatest and I would recommend him to anyone. Not to mention he specializes in endo and is an amazing surgeon.

I guess my post was confusing. I use a NP for my primary care, she is the one that pushed all the testing to get to the bottom of my problems. With all the gyn problems I've had I do see my gyn not an NP there. I agree on the why talk to someone that can't do anything surgical when you already know you're fine otherwise. My point was just that the one that was an amazing OB made a crappy gyn and I had to switch to someone that is a good gyn, I dont' know if the new one would be a good OB or not, I'll probably not need to find out Janet
