Hello everyone, I have read the posts here and I am amazed at how many women suffer from this devastating disease. I had never even heard of Endometriosis before 2 years ago. Just thought I would drop a line to see how this works M

Thanks ouchy,
I have not been diagnosed with Endometriosis as of yet even I have had the lap done. Either there is none there or the Gyn could not find it.
I suppose I should start at the beginning, maybe someone can relate to what I am experiencing.
About two years ago I started experiencing a little tiny pain on my lower left side. I felt this only when I coughed ot shifted position to quickly. Over the next year it progressed to a localized burning sensation in the same spot. My periods became very painful. I finally went to the doctor and she sent me for an ultra sound twice. Everything came back normal. She then sent me to a Gyno. I waited for a year to have a lap as the Canadian medical system is over extended and I was not a priority. During this time I was on the pill although I was suffering from breakthrough bleeding and would bleed for 3 weeks out of the month. During this time I also developed rectal bleeding. I had the lap and sigmoidoscoy in April and she found nothing :-(. I was then sent for a colonoscopy and that showed nothing as well. Now i am stumped!! I know you can have rectal bleeding even if it has not penetrated to the Mucosa, but I would have thought that the Gyn would have checked the outside of the bowel because of the bleeding from the bowel. In my heart I know I have endo as my pain and symptoms are dependant on my cycle. (I only bleed from the bowel when I have my period). I also have extreme lower back pain during my periods. Bloating and water retention are also a problem.
Does this sound familar to anyone.

Hi, mishka. Sounds like endometriosis to me. I had a similar problem with bleeding when I urinated...ONLY during my periods. My gyne did not find any endo on my bladder during either lap I had, and he said that it is most likely endo, which most likely would only be seen if a lap was performed actually during my period.
I have not had any rectal bleeding, but I did have a sigmoid colonoscopy to see if any endo had invaded my sigmoid colon, as endo was found on the outside of my intestines in several places, including gluing my sigmoid colon sideways and to my pelvic wall. I hope your gyne. would have checked the outside of your bowels. Did you communicate your symptom to the gyne who performed your surgery?

Hi Ouchy,
Yes, I communicated this to her in February. I was waiting for my lap when this new symptom developed so I made an appointment to see her as I was very worried as colon cancer runs in my family (I had no idea you could bleed from the bowel with Endo). She sent me to a general sugeon that did the sigmoid and colonoscopy. They were both normal so I am back at square one again as the lap showed nothin also :-( I would have thought she would have really looked in these areas because of the bleeding. This is why I am stumped. I see her on Thursday and hopefully she will be able to shed some light on it. It is very frustrating. It is nice to be able to vent to people that understand what a person is feeling. No one else really undersands unless they experience it.
Thanks Ouchy M

Hi, mishka. Yah. I know how frustrating it is! Colon cancer also runs in my family, so the gastro wanted to check both for endo and for cancer--luckily, both were negative during the internal scope.
Sometimes the endo doesn't show, depending what part of your cycle you are in, as far as the hormones causing the endo to swell/bleed (thus become more visible). My doc. said that the best time to have the lap done is when you are on your period, but for me that is hard to tell when it will be!
I'm glad they didn't find any cancer when they did your scopes. I wish you the best of luck when you talk to your doctor. Best wishes. ~Ouchy

I haven't been diagnosed with endometriosis yet, but I just wanted to mention that I had rectal bleeding a few years ago, and had a colonoscopy to remove some juvenille polyps. Perhaps there is a relation between the two conditions.
