Hi - I just found out I had endometriosis last week. I am seeing a fertility specialist this week. Has anyone been recommended to freeze their eggs prior to lap surgery?

You "found out you have endometriosis last week." But it sounds like you may have an upcoming lap. You can only be diagnosed through a lap, so if a doctor told you that you have endometriosis without having already performed a lap, I'd head for the hills. You can have "probable endometriosis" without having a lap, but a lap is the only way to know for sure (or other invasive surgery w/ direct view).
I've never heard of freezing eggs specifically for a lap, especially since having a lap is supposed to boost your fertility for up to a year or so. It's not like they're putting you through radiation or chemo or something that might ruin your eggs--they're going in to have a look around, probably burn what they find.
Did your fertility specialist recommend freezing your eggs? If so, please find out why for us. I'm intrested in learning more about this bc it is new to me.

I can see harvesting some eggs if you are having a hysterectomy and want to use a surrogate.

Thanks. I am new to all this stuff. My gyno recommended me to see a fertility specialist. She said I had an ovarian cyst last month. After a 2nd sono, she mentioned the word endometriosis. I had no idea that you don't know until they actually go in there. Thanks for the reply.

No problem. Don't let her tell you that you have it without seeing. Actually, dont' let her do your surgery if she doesn't know that up front! If you want to see a fertility specialist, a lot of them do know about endometriosis. They are also well-versed in cysts and ways to treat them. THere are different types of cysts (here is an entire link about them w/ a pamphlet i got from my OBGYN's office cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=related&action=display&thread=1184724668 ). Good luck! And if she doesn't appear to know much about endo, find someone else before letting her explore your insides!

it's not standard procedure to harvest eggs before a lap, which is supposed to boost your fertility.
If they take your tubes, you woudl still be able to produce eggs--unless they take your ovaries. Discuss it with your doctor. Put in a call for him to call you back A.S.A.P.
Good luck!
