For those of you who have gone through IVF or know someone who has, how have you paid for it?
I only know of one couple who has done it (my best friends co-worker). They got a loan with their house as collateral. My husband and I can't do that, since we rent. My other good friend is a loan officer at Wells Fargo and she said there are such things as "signature" loans that don't use collateral, so we'll have to see about those.
Also, does anyone know about INCIID (the International Council on Infertility Information Dissemination, Inc.) (http://www.inciid.com/)? There is an IVF Scholarship program called "From the Heart." Has anyone tried this?

Where are you located? My first round is $6,300 ($8,500 if you count all the ultrasounds and blood work).
Neither of those include the cost of the injections though - I'm going to be taking HMG (Repronex, ordered from England), and it's $12 PER VIAL (and I'm going to take 4 vials per day)!!! I had to get 60 vials, so including shipping, it was approximately $850 for 15 days worth. Then there's the cost of Antagon, HCG, and progesterone in oil.
If I had bought the Repronex in the US, it would have been about $54 PER VIAL! ($54 x 60 = $3,240!!!)
(All prices are US$.)

I have been looking in my area (San Francisco) and it is around $8500-$13500, without meds. A few of the clinics offer a very large refund if you don't get pregnant but they do have specific medical conditions you have to be at before you can participate in the 'refund' ivf programs. I think my husband and I are going to have to go to the IVF route but we'll have to wait until next February/March when I get my work bonus. That will pay for a majority of the costs. I am also saving money now to try to cover what the difference from my bonus to the actual cost will be. Hopefully we can qualify for the 'refund' IVF.

Wow, the price variations is crazy. I live in New Mexico and a frined is currently going through the process. They have been given a bill for 23,000 dollars.
Some of the cost depends on whether or not the male has problems too. Which in their situation he does. If it was only her going through the meds. they were told they cost would be about 5,000 cheaper.

Posted by member allison in another thread. I am an American living in Germany with Endo III/IV. I just had my first IVF try here in Germany and I didnĀ“t even make it to the harvesting part. No follicles developed after 10 days. I have my follow-up appointment tommorow, but know that I will not be using this clinic again because it was so impersonal and nothing is really explained to me. Now I am considering going to the U.S. for a try there close to my parents where i will be as relaxed as possible. Because I only have travelers insurance, I do not suppose that anything will be covered by insurance and am curious if anyone can give me a ball-park figure for IVF. Thanks for your help. I am having a really crappy week..... allison

Sorry I've been gone for a few weeks (I was on vacation).
My IVF (and ICSI) cost about $9,000, including meds (which we bought from England, since the price was $850.00 per cycle versus about $3,400 if we'd bought the SAME meds in the US), and including all the ultrasounds and bloodwork (which I had about every two or three days).
Nothing was covered by insurance, but my husband and I had some mutual funds that we cashed in. Luckily, IVF worked in one round!

From a website called something like IVFmeds.com (that might not be the correct URL). My reproductive endocrinologist actually recommended them, since she said they're one of the most reliable pharmacies they work with (moreso than non-internet pharmacies), and since the meds are actually MADE in England anyway. I think that the big difference is that they can only sell brand-name in the US, whereas they can sell generic in England (it doesn't matter though, because it's all made over there).
