Within a few days mine started coming back, up to week 5 it was about where it was, but since then I think the treatment (Mirena + Provera) has started to work. My daily pain has really reduced.

Oh my goodness, there really is no hope and I really have to deal with it. That is what I am seeing on here. I have been told I have Endo without a lap over these past few months. Been dealing with chronic and gradually over the years, worse pain, for approx. 12 years. My gyn is unsupportive but my primary tells me there are other treatment options out there like lap diagnostic testings. I was hoping it would help me through this life altering chronic pain but I'm really not seeing any light at the end of the tunnel unfortunately.

They have to do a lap to diagnose because otherwise it's like looking at you and saying you're anaemic without doing a blood test. All close but not necessarily any cigar... I found it very hard to work out what was recovery pain and what was endo pain. I'd say now I'm definitely suffering with endo pain but there's also the mysterious pain on my left that started after the lap which I still haven't had a scan for. I can say its endo pain cos it worsens along with my cycle but it only started after the op so who knows

Mine was back 6 months later. But the doctor I had wasn't a specialist which i regret. So anyone reading this who is thinking about surgery make certain that you have confidence in your doctor and that they have experience and know what they are looking for. Make sure you have a game plan for going in there too. <3 Good luck!

No, a lap isn't a cure - there is NO cure for endo - but it can get you closer to knowing what's going on, what's affected, and some women DO get lasting relief from a lap! But, if anything, it gives you a firm diagnosis and a game plan for how to deal with it. A cautiously optimistic approach with, as Kitty mentioned, a qualified doc is a healthy way to view it!
Cherry - any chance that new pain you have is adhesion pain??

Hello, I had my lap 6 months ago and had the mirena fitted at the same time. I have been pain free for the full six months which has been wonderful. Sadly the last few weeks I had slight pain and didnt even put two and two together as all my periods have stopped since having the mirena. The last few days Ive had that way too familiar shooting pain going down my legs and I just cannot believe it is back. I am so so so gutted. I had an excellent surgeon in the UK but have since moved to Australia so it's not like I can pop back to see him either. Sorry for doom and gloom but here we go again........... I guess there is no point me being on the mirena anymore - hubby said it made me a bit mardy anyway lol. Is there a limit as to how many laps we can have? Ive had one emergency and the second for removal. Defo do not want a hyst as I would love more children if possible. Any advise, words of wisdom would be appreciated. Read some of the diet tips again and will try the gluten free in the hope it holds it off a bit longer. In the meantime I guess Im grateful for 6 months pain free to get me through my huge relocation.

If you haven't tried diet changes yet, it's certainly worth giving it a good honest effort! You'd be amazed at the results you can get with that alone! Glad mirena helped, at least for a bit. Who knows, perhaps your recent pain is just a short lived fluke?

Hi Karen, yes Im hoping its a fluke too, but although not a patch on how painful it was pre-lap it's that irritating constant pain. I'm printing off the diet tips as we speak. Hope you are well, and thank you for your reply.

Hmmm, anou could chalk that up to Mirena pain? That thing gave me pain from day one, and as soon as it was out I felt instant relief. Not saying that's the case with you, but perhaps something to keep an eye on?

I had my first lap in Oct 2008. I went to ER in Feb 2010 and found out the cyst is back on my right ovary. It's gone from 1cm to 3.5cm in 7 months.

After my first surgery I had one month pain free. Six months later I had surgery again, this time with a better doc and using excision. I had a Mirena put in during surgery. I had two years of daily pain that I believe was surgery recovery and discomfort from the IUD. After two years, the pain just stopped. I stopped having a period shortly after insertion but it started to come back - light spotting and cramping - on a very regular cycle. I had Mirena out this past June and had a seemingly normal period right away. I had cramps with the first sign of my period and have had increasing ovarian pain ever since. My doc says I have a very aggressive case. I guess how quickly it comes back depends on the woman.

Period over and pain ceased. Personally I think the constant supply of gluten free jelly beans are helping ;-))

Hi,
My endo came back about a year after surgery, I also had a nerve cutting to decrease the pain so that may be why I lasted so long without pain. I had an ultrasound and no cysts but the pain is definitly there! using naproxen and tylenol # 3's right now and referred back to my surgeon for another lap. My friend said she had the same procedure that I did and she tried to have kids right afterwards and hasn't had any problems since! so there is hope for some although endometiosis does recur, even though my surgeon said "I cauterized everything and you shouldn't have any more problems" at my follow up appointment, WRONG! anyways good luck and keep us updated. My endo is also severe or extensive as they classified it.
