Hey guys I was just wondering if u were given strong painkillers while u are having your surgery so that when u wake up you aren't in as much pain? Or do they just give u something to put u to sleep? Also, do they put pain meds through an iv after? And what do they send you home with? I'm hoping i get something stronger than vicodin, cuz i think that doesn't do much for me anymore unfortunately. Anyway, i'm a little nervous about the pain and wondering what they do for you and what they give you. Thanks guys! Jen

I was given Demarol (spelling?) before I went under. I was knocked out w/ a strong narcotic concoction. When I awoke, I was given an IV for pain (forgot what was in it) that I could control myself w/ a little button. After that, I just had Vicodin for pain, but I only took 2.
You can always request the type of medicine you want for pain. I requested NO morphine, so they gave me whatever was in that drip. I also requested Vicodin instead of Percocet. If they give you something you dont' like, you can always refuse it and ask for an alternate med. It just has to be approved by your doc.

You always reply so fast! Thank you! If u don't mind me asking is there a reason why u requested vicodin instead of percocet? Do u find it works better? And do u mean u only needed 2 total like throughout the whole time of recovery? Also, u said you requested no morphine. Have u had experience w/ morphine at all? I have such a low tolerance for pain. I'm so nervous. Sorry for all the questions.

Hi! I reply quickly bc I'm a nerd and am always on the computer . LOL I requested Vicodin instead of Percocet, because I find that Percocet is a bit easier on my stomach, especially if I am nauseated. I only needed 2 total, and that was including having an incision to the side of my belly button, slicing through all my muscle layers, rather than just dropping the laprascope through my belly button tube. I requested no morphine because I had a VERY bad experience with it about a decade ago. I had a nose job that landed me in the hospital for a week (It went wrong.), and I had shot after shot after shot of morphine. It made spiders come out of my arms--I scratched my arms until they were almost bleeding, and I saw spiders coming out of the walls! I also tried to kick a nun! It all depends on the person, though! Everyone is different and reacts to medications differently.

I had morphine at the hospital. Home with percocet but I didn't use many. I took the percocet the first day but switched to alleve and motrin after that. Perhaps if I had used more I wouldn't have still felt like I got hit by a truck and it was still dragging me down the street for 2 weeks Janet

I took Darvocet and Vicodin for about a month before surgery Whatever was in my IV (I had two IV lines) during surgery, and Vicodin and Percocet (2 every 6 hours for about three weeks) after surgery. (I'm allergic to NSAIDs and Aspirin, and Tylenol is worthless to me, so narcotics were really my only hope of relief.)
[I had the standard incision in my bellybutton, one about an inch and a half long down at my public line, one about an inch long on the left side of my stomach (below my belly button and slightly to the left), and one about an inch and a half long on the right side.]
Oh, I almost forgot, it's not a painkiller, but I'm taking Ditropan (Oxybutynin) to relieve painful bladder spasms (my surgeon, OBGYN & GP think I have endo inside my bladder).
