Hi ladies, I was wondering if anyone was able to shed some light on the advantages and disadvantages of having an operative laparoscopy with hysteroscopy & dye, whilst halfway through menstruating. Thanks!

Hey, AussieBird! We have a couple posts on this, but this seems to be the first actual thread. Thanks for starting it! Oh. The lap w/ hysteroscopy/dye is in a different thread, I think, but to stick w/ the title of your thread, my gynecologist said that the best time to have the lap is actually during your period, as the implants break down and bleed, so more endo is actually mmore visible during menses.

Ok. SO, I can't find the thread I'm looking for. Please start a different thread on having the lap w/ the hysteroscopy and dye, since it's really different from the title of this thread and I think you'll get better responses if the subject matter fits the title.

4 more days till my laparoscopy. I am going to start my period within this week so maybe I will be menstruating during surgery. I guess it is a good thing that it worked out his way so they will be able to get a better view!

Man... I don't know what is going on, but the doc wanted me to stop my birthcontroll this month because my lap is coming up and he thought that the hormones would suppress the endo... so he made me not take birth controll this month in hopes that the endo would show up better... but I just started my period and it is BARELY there...probably going off birth controll tweaked me all out. Because my period is so light, im not having much pain this month. Do you think that will effect his ability to see the endo? I am so scared he wont find anything! AHHHH my surgery is tomorrow morning at 8:50... wish me luck!

I had a lap in 2003 to determine if I had endo. I did. I was on my period when I went in for the lap and my Gyno told me he wished I had told him the day before because he would have postponed it because I had bleed out so much in surgery. But I am glad I had it because I woke up feeling like a new women. The endo had grown all over and my tubes were twisted and stuck to one of my ovaries. He was able to save one ovary but I will be going in 3 weeks to have a full hysterectomy because the pain has came back in the past year. I was almost 4 years pain free after years and years of painful periods. I am 44 now. My doctor said he had never seen anything like what I had or as bad. He took pictures and showed them to me and my ovary was about the size of a grapefruit where my tubes had been strangling it. My tubes were twisted like they had been braided together. I had to spend the night the first time and he wants me to come prepared for spending the night again just with my past history. I fully encourage anyone to have the lap to determine if what you have is endo. Just knowing what is wrong helps so much and when I started hurting again I knew just what it was. I wish I had found this forum before I had my first lap but it has been so helpful now. I have new questions to ask my Dr that I would not have had I not found you all. Thanks to all. Pam

Hi All, I'm new to this site - am off ill at the mo with my endo - its that time of the month again! Thanks for you're advise on this. I am sceduled for a lap on 3rd Sept - 4 wks from now which means my period will be due again. I haven't had my pre-op app so I wasn't sure if I was OK to still go ahead during..... I guess this answers my query. Should I still mention it on my pre-op appt do you think? This is my 5th lap for endo. Have suffered for 16yrs. This time they've found an endometrioma on my right ovary (or they think it is) My ovary is 7 times bigger than my left! Showed up during an ultrasound... anyway - thanks for all your tips.... even though I should be a dab hand at this now I still get nervous, plus I'm in Australia now as we've emmigrated & my other laps were in England so the procedures are all different!
