This drug has got to be the biggest mistake that I've ever made. I got my period for the 6th time in 2 months (About 60 days, give or take) today...
It has completely sent my body on the fritz!

I haven't let the pain really set in. I'm taking enteric coated Diclofenac, 75mg every 8 hrs. I'm only supposed to take it every 12, but the pain gets too bad if I wait that long. And they are a tad shorter than normal...no longer than 5 days. But its still so frustrating.
Also I can't do all the things I like (such as go swimming) because I can't wear tampons anymore. The pain is just like someone is stabbing my girly parts when I try to put one in. Must be the endo getting worse, because I used to have discomfort, but not like this. I'm dreading my next pelvic because its all so tender anymore...I don't even know how I'll stand it

Not cool. At your next pelvic, ask your doc if pelvic PT can help with the tenderness. I hope things start to look up for you soon!!

This is an older thread and I'm new so not sure if I'm right responding, but just wanted to give an alternative experience.
I had Depo injections (in my arm as I didn't want them going near my bum with a needle!) for about 2 years beings as I couldn't take the normal pill, and the mini pill made me a full time bleeder! It really did help me actually. It reduced my pains loads, and just made me achy for a few weeks of the 12 week cycle. The only problem I had was that I would bleed for up to 8 weeks. Looking back though it was betterbin the fact that it was loads lighter, and when they reduced me to a 10 weekly cycle of injections I bled for 6 weeks.
I don't think this is acceptable by any means, but now when I'm in absolute agony and flooding through my clothes in the pub toilet I would sell my car for a shot of depo!
Just wanted to say to anyone who is thinking depo is their last chance it might give you a bit of a relief, and proves that all our bodies are different and react differently to different things.
Much love to all the ladies suffering with depo, I don't think they tell us enough about these things before they start giving them out xxxx

Thanks for the new perspective! It's absolutely fine to revive older threads, no worries there!

I thought I'd resurrect the Depo Provera thread.
I guess maybe I'm the only one on the shot right now?
I got my first shot on June 14th, 2012. So far, not really any side effects but I think it's causing me to lose weight, which really isn't good since I'm already thin enough. I'm 5'3" and was around 115 - 120. I'm down to 110 and not really sure why. I've been eating normally for the most part except maybe not as many snacks, but still don't know if it would make me lose five pounds for not having snacks for a few days. I am just going to have to start eating more and hope I don't lose any more weight because if I do, I am going to have to stop getting the shot. :-\
I spotted since the day I got my first shot, but just yesterday, the spotting actually stopped. Hopefully no more periods for a good long time!
Other than that, I haven't noticed any other side effects. I've only had a little bit of endo pain off and on, but definitely not every day and only lasts for a few minutes and is minimal.
The MAIN reason I got on the shot is because I have an endometrioma/chocolate cyst on my right ovary and we're trying to shrink it or hope it disappears completely. As of right now, it's 2 cm. I had one on my left ovary last year and had my first laparoscopy on August 17, 2011. That cyst was 6 cm and had grown very quickly. It was very, very small and then six months later, it was already 6 cm.
For this new cyst on my right ovary, I tried Micronor for a few months to see if that would help stop its growth or shrink it. It did not shrink it or stop its growth, but it did seem to slow the growth, but since I was still having a period (though it was a lot less bleeding and days of bleeding reduced) while on Micronor, that could be one of the reasons the cyst continued to grow, but much slower.
I am hoping that with no period, this cyst will shrink or disappear eventually. The last thing I want is another laparoscropy. :-(
I go back in September to get my next shot and hopefully to see if the cyst has stopped growing or shrunk some. *crosses fingers* Please, please, please!!!
Also, I am taking vitamin D and calcium supplements (as well as many other vitamins and minerals) for bone health.

Glad to hear it's working for you! I subscribe to other health blogs and one of them said that with depo, you can only take it for a max of 2 years, I don't know if that's true or not but that would suck if it is true and works so well for you. I take the pill continual and that's worked very well for me so I'm glad to hear your treatments are going well so far.

I really hope the shot helps shrink your endometrioma!!! It's awesome to hear that you haven't really had side effects, though i hope your weight stabilizes

Hey Sammie! I was on depo for 5 years (up until a month ago) It completely stopped my periods and really had no negative side affects. Although, i am losing a lot of weight since it has been out of my system. At first my gyno thought nothing of endo but put me on depo because of my pain but now it stopped working and my pain came back 10 fold(also i am exhibiting extreme symptoms of endo)So a couple weeks ago i was put on seasopniq. I am still waiting for it to kick in and help my symptoms but getting back to the question, it worked for a long time. My dr. thinks that is also the reason that endo wasn't suspected while i was on the shot. I hope it answered your question dear.

My first real side effect of Depo has been sweating at night. Strangely, not every night, but some mornings I wake up and I am damp from sweat. Depending on the night, sometimes it's a lot of sweating and sometimes it's not much and some nights I didn't sweat at all.
Other than that, I haven't noticed anything really (not even breast tenderness, which I thought would have happened right away). I am still having pain where that chocolate cyst is on my right ovary. I keep hoping it would just go away already, but don't know what it's doing and why it's causing pain off and on. Aughhh!!!! Come on and shrink already!!!!
