I am so sorry that you have to go through all of this! Alteast though is isn't quite the case I thought it was and the doctor is willing to book a lap if need be.
I hope you are able to get everything sorted out though! *hugs*

I was on depo once to "control my periods". Well, I bled for 6 months straight! And, unlike most women, lost a bunch of weight! My twin sister is on it, and loves it! She rarely gets a period (and when she does it's really light and lasts maybe 1 or 2 days).
I opted against Lupron because of all the side effects.

Hi hope this is the right spot to post this thread...sorry if it isn't. I have been on the depo shot now for over 6 years(yes I had a bone scan and my bones are 70 yrs old now); this past Aug I noticed the pain again (it was gone with the shot along with my periods); it only lasted for a week tho and only occurred every 2nd month. I had my shot in Dec and January the pain went for 1 1/2 wks and that is when I started the endo diet (what to eat and lots of vitamins). I now have regular BM's (that's amazing in itself), I have more energy but (here comes the but); this morning I swear I'm spotting. I haven't had a period in over 6 years; is it the drug not working anymore or is it the fact that I'm taking the vitamins that are supposed to balance everything out? I am to get a shot at the end of this month and I don't know what to do. Why put a drug into my body that seems to not work anymore? Is by chance something else wrong with me? Somedays I could pull my hair out trying to figure this out. I just want to stop the drug and see if the diet and vitamins are doing what they'r supposed to but do I dare take that chance when I have 2 kids to support and I have to work. Thanx all for listening to me rant; I appreciate it.

i've been taking Lupron for 3 years on and off (mostly on) and I just had a lap a week ago- dispite being on lupron for over a year, I had endo, and it had even gotten onto my intestines and glued them together. On top of the shot i had been taking continuous bc pills, so there really isn't a reason that endo should have been growing. anyway, my point is that, although i don't know the effects of lupron after a long time, it seemed to wear off for me. Plus, i've been in pain since June despite the lupron, so that kind of adds to my theory. hope this helps, but if I were you, i would think of trying other options if the effectiveness of lupron really concerns you. its a tough choice, i know, because its hard to stop something that works even just a little bit. good luck

I opted to try the Depo Provera shot over Lupron or anything else (not that any of the options are enticing) but it's only been a little under three weeks. I guess I'll have to wait another week before I see if it's made any difference. The side effects make me a little nervous, but seem to be much more tolerable compared to what I've read here about Lupron.
I'll update this post as soon as I know anything. *fingers crossed

I'm wondering if anyone has had any experience being on Provera tablets and switching over to the Depo Provera shot. I am currently on tablets daily, and have had very good results with them, but I have been considering switching over to the shot form. My doctor has suggested the shot form several times to me as an option to try next. I was concerned over what type of reaction I would get with Provera, which is why I started out in tablet form. I have been on 5mg/day for 3 months, and although I have had hot flashes and night sweats as well as a few more mood swings then usual, they seem to be settling out a bit more now. I am concerned over making a switch to depo though as the initial dosage is much higher then 5mg/day, and I am wondering if I might feel a more severe reaction with the shot. If anyone has had the experience of using both, I would really appreciate a comparative. I know everyone is different, but I am interested to know how effects may have been increased or decreased with the switch.

I'm currently on Depo Provera the shot. I've only had one shot and it's been a little over a month now and it's definitely not working out. I was always sensitive to headaches but they seem more frequent now, I get dizzy/lightheaded easily, I still have my cramps and they're just always there, I feel like I get no break from it, and I've been bleeding the whole time. Mood swings are up and down all the time, I'm very sensitive and I just feel so depressed. I found a new family doctor that I totally think is great and he said that I need the estrogen to balance out my hormone levels. But then I read endo feeds on estrogen. I'm confused! I don't know about the Provera pills, never heard of them, and I'm not sure if they're in Canada either, medication likes to have different names too so that adds to confusion as well when researching.
Two more months to go, two long months.

My doc refuses to give the Depo shot because he feels the side effects just aren't worth it. No joke-refuses!

I know exactly what you are going through Silver! I've been on Depo since Dec. and it does the same thing for me. After a shot or two, we got the bleeding thing under control, but I get so many cramps and terrible headaches. And when they give me the shot I limp for 2 days afterwards on the side that it was given in (I get it in my hip). And when it wears off on me, I'm like a drug addict going through detox! I get so mean and angry and just really mad. And it goes away the minute I get my next shot! Go figure. But yea, over all, I hate this drug...parts of me thinks its made things worse than improved.

I was on the shot 10 years ago. The experience was horrible for me. I was so depressed that I was at the darkest point in my life. I did not want to go on and had a episode that will stay with me the rest of my life. The drug was too much for me to handle and my doctor would NEVER give it to me again bc of how I reacted to it. When I was bleeding non stop my doc ordered provera tabs for me to stop my bleeding he had to do something for me but would only allow up to 10 a month so I go some relief from the bleeding without going off the deep end. I feel for you girls I hope the benefit of the drug out ways the side effects. I have heard similar experiences from friends and I thought for so long I was the only one with the issue. When a doctor at the Clevleand Clinic suggested Lupron to me I laughed at him. I said ummm read my chart if I could not handle Depo then how the heck would I be able to take Lupron? Talk to your docs if the mood swings get really bad. I was young I did not understand at that point in my life that my body was reacting to the medicine I thought I was just going nutts. If you feel a change that is not your typical mood then contact your doctor asap.

I've been on Depo since Dec 31...had my last shot Aug 16. I've always had cramps and headaches on it, but since this last shot things have been kinda fishy. Bad migraines and dizziness...and now, for about a month, I've had all these body aches. It started with lower right back pain, and now its progressed to my whole body. My bones hurt so bad! I'm taking calcium, Vit D, magnesium, and BioSil (google it...pretty awesome stuff), but the pain just won't go away. I have nearly 10 different kinds of pain killers and nothing...It hurts worse in my joints and spreads out from there. Its constant pain, but sometimes its gets worse and I just want to cry. The doctors wouldn't see me, I don't have Lymes according to them either. So today we're making an appointment with a chiropractor/natropath/homeopath hoping maybe he will have some answers for me. But have any of you taken Depo and had something similar? We've been reading some reviews on it online and its just a terrible drug and people have all sorts of issues being on it. And they say there isn't a whole lot that can be done either until the drug is out of your system. But there could be some underlying cause too so that's why I'm being persistant about getting this checked out...its just too strange.

I've been having almost the same thing. Joints are the worst. I've been on depo all together for like 5 years with a 1 year break in between. I just started having this happen a few months ago and it's getting worse. I also have been bruising easier. I didn't think to look to see if depo could be why... hmm. I might ask my dr next time I go in.. if that's a symptom she's ever heard of. I don't have the classic symptoms from it though... no weight gain, no craziness, no with drawl at the end of the 3 months.... it evens me out. But since I've started having the pelvic pain and joint/bone pain.. it'd make since that maybe my bodies reacting differently to it. I'm def going to ask! Going to a natropath is prob the best idea bc there's so many natural remedies that can do awesome things that most people don't know about. my step mom had breast cancer and was in chemo awhile back. she was going to one who told her to take these certain shakes and she GAINED weight in chemo and recently got her blood work back and everythings gone. she doesn't have to be checked out for 9 months! and she gives the shakes and vitamins allll the credit. So they'll prob be able to help.
Good luck!

I didn't have the normal side effects with the Depo either. I lost weight...I was down to 109 lbs and hardly eating. I was as gaunt as a ghost and just feeling terrible. I've had daily cramping since the day I went on it (but going off gluten and wheat greatly helped that) and tons of headaches. I get the withdrawal symptoms at the end of the 3 months, when I'm due for another one. I get terribly mean, and the headaches and cramps multiply a million times. My doctor says they'll never go away if I stay on it because that's just how my body will react to the drug. But something is fishy since this last injection I got. I had all the normal symptoms but multiplied by 100. Migraines with dizziness and puking, massive cramps, and now all these bone aches. Its taken my period away (except for the first shot...I bled for 6 weeks straight and had to get the second one early to stop it) and done fine for my Endo in that way, but the side effects don't seem to be weighed out by the benefits here. I still have just as much pain, but its strung out instead of clumped together 2 weeks a month. Also, I haven't read any other stories of this happening, but when I get the shot (in my hip) it burns like they're injecting me with fire. And I get a limp for 2 days afterwards because it causes so much pain. I can't sleep on the side they give it for about a week that its so tender. I positively hate this stuff.
