I took Loestrin 1/20, which I believe is the same thing, except I had 7 days of placebos, instead of the 4 placebos you have in Loestrin 24. It helped my endo symptoms a LOT, probably the most out of all the pills I was on; however, I did have cyclic breakthrough and had a "period" every 2 weeks...but that's just my stupid body w/ breakthrough and pills. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

I just checked. The active ingredients in Loestrin 1/20 are Ethinyl Estradiol and Norethindrone--placebo pills have added iron. The active ingredients in Loestrin 24 are also Ethinyl Estradiol and Norethindrone--placbo pills have added iron. The only difference seems to be the number of placebo pills meant for the "withdrawl bleed."

I would guess that the side effects would be pretty much just like any other pill. One of the "hopeful" side effects, however, is that w/ only 4 days of placebo pills, the "period" will be shorter. I'm surprised the doctor didn't just say to skip the placebos all together, making it continuous birth control and hopefully eliminating the period.
As far as the hormones in this pill, I had the most endo relief with this one out of all 10 I have tried, though.

Instead of the traditional seven days of placebos, there are with this pill only 4. I would guess that the side effects would be pretty much just like any other pill. Hi Ouchy I dont know why my gyn didnt mention taking an active pill continuously but to be honest with u, I have done that in the past with other brands and i dont like the way i feel when i dont get my period..im very bloated , irritable, pms (lets blame that on the pill LOL) I rather have some monthly period even if its just for a couple of days...just my own experience

No. I understand. I totally feel the same way. And it's weird, bc the "period" on the pill isn't even a really period!!! But I still felt weird skipping it!

I was on Loestrin 24 Fe when all my symptoms started. I had three full flowing painful periods in the month of April. Well I was just given another Rx for it to help with pain? I don't understand using a med being taken at the onset of symptoms to then treat the symptoms... If this doesn't work (and I highly doubt that it will), I move on to Lupron. This is ridiculous. I just want the pain to stop. Some days I wish I could do my own hysterectomy, the doctor never sees how bad the pain is.
All I can say is that I was on Loestrin 24 Fe when I first started to really notice my symptoms. It was gradually getting worse, until they changed it to YAZ which I could take because I have a low tolerance to estrogen. Most BC makes me sick, like pregnant sick. Good Luck though, Everyone is different. Maybe you have better luck.

Wondering if I can revive this thread.... I have been on seasonique and have had progresssively worse breakthrough bleeding to the point of a full on period while being on the pill (I take them continuously). My doc has changed me to Loestrin 24 and so I was wondering if anyone else had any luck with this pills. Pros/cons? My other option is an IUD, which I am not sure that I am ready to do.

I have been on Loestrin 24 and Lo-Loestrin 24 for the past 7 months. My gyno started me on it to stop my period as we tried to figure out what was going on, and ending with a diagnosis of endo in April. I am currently still on it. I take it continuously and have had no side effects from the medication. I have never had breakthrough bleeding or anything. My only concern to make you aware of is that there is NO generic for Loestrin so even if you have medical insurance it barely will cover anything. Mine covered 20 dollars and I still had to pay 75 out of my pocket for one month. Good luck though!

Yeah, I discovered that yesterday when I went to the pharmacy. I see a specialist at USCF nex month. She is close to me so I figured, why not. Im going to start the Loesterin in the meantime. Ive read the same on line..... few side effects. Ive been on seasonique for years bit the breakthrough bleding is just getting worse. Thanks for the input.

I am currently on microgestin, the generic for Loestrin 24, so I am posting here for some help. Ive been taking it since July and am now having breakouts on my face. I am 41 and have only had this problem once before and it was due to BCP's. My pain and breakthrough bleeding that I had on Seasonique are gone so I am hesitant to switch.
Anyone else have side effects show up 9 months after you started the pill? Anyone else with acne problems on microgestin/Junel/Loestrin?

I had terrible acne on Microgestin, and I think for me it was the Norethindrone, I was switched to Seasonale with at a higher dose, though at that point my pain was so bad I started Lupron a month later. Microgestin also caused me horrible breakthrough bleeding.
