We have a couple, I believe, who have tried Seasonale.
Here is what I got from the Seasonique website.
"How is SEASONIQUE™ different from SEASONALE®?
SEASONIQUE™ has a unique extended regimen with continuous estrogen to eliminate the hormone-free interval. Its 91-day regimen contains 84 days of levonorgestrel/ethinyl estradiol tablets, 0.15 mg/0.03 mg, followed by 7 days of low-dose estrogen (ethinyl estradiol tablets, 0.01 mg) in place of placebo. Each prescription pack contains one full extended cycle (3-month supply). "
So, the only difference is that there is no technical "placebo week" bc the 7-day break pills contain estrogen.
It's not a real period you get that week, though. It's a "withdrawal bleed."

Hi munecita - I was on Seasonique for 5 weeks to control an ovarian cyst and then went off so I can work on fertility. I actually liked Seasonique. The first week was rough (morning sickness, tired, sore breast) but after that it was good.

Hi,
I am currently on it. The first few weeks I had sickness, tired and sore breasts but I am into my third month and almost done with my first pack. So far I really like it and has not been that bad. I go for an ultra sound in a few weeks to find out if it has helped my cysts at all. I plan on staying on it!

Today I had my ultra sound to see how I have been doing on the seasonique. I have to say I don't like the fact of being on the pill but I love this pill! For me minimal side effects and my cysts are shrinking! This is a good sign because a few months ago we were looking at possibly another surgery. I go back in another six months and I am very hopeful that my cysts will have shrunk even more. Being on this pill has really cut down the pain I was having too!
I would suggest this to anyone who hasn't tried it because it just might work for you too!

I haven't found an actual thread on Seasonique, so I figured I'd start one... I finally broke down and started on a BCP after four years of TTC with no luck. The pain had gotten to a point that I just couldn't bear anymore. I was blowing off cysts about every other month and was just simply at my wit's end. I wanted to try the Nuvaring b/c Karen and Jenaya seemed to have so much luck with it, but my doc pushed for Seasonique because she really wanted to shut me down (limit periods as much as possible). I was scared to death at first b/c I haven't had very good experiences with the pill in the past, but I must say I feel great!!! I've had not one single side effect yet other than being a bit weepy. I cry at the drop of a hat anyways, so it's really not out of the norm I'm almost finished with my first pack and I'd say my pain has already decreased about 80%. It's amazing. I'm glad to already have a little piece of my life back. I felt a loss when I started b/c I felt like I was 'giving up' trying to have a baby, but I had to weigh my options. I was back to the point of missing work and immediately going home at night to lay on the couch with my heating pad. I'm not throwing all my eggs in one basket yet, but man, if it continues like this I'd be psyced! I honestly forgot what feeling quasi-normal felt like

Seasonique has only worked for me in that it does reduce my pelvic pain and abdominal cramping, especially the unbearable pain associated with my period. My gyn thinks this is great even though this bc caused breakthrough bleeding the first 6 months and a fluctuation of breakthrough bleeding and full flow period for the last 3 months. He says this is just an unfortunate side effect of the medication even though I explained upon my first visit that I am a newlywed and my disease was and has continued to dampen the erotic fire my husband and I long for during this special time in our lives. I am scheduled for LAPEX on 11/23/2010 so minimal change is required. The most we could do to stop the bleeding was add back the vivelle estrogen patch until I get to surgery date. I will not try this medication again after my surgery. I believe that physicians should consider the whole person and all symptoms, not just one or two that they think is the easiest to treat. Seasonique is a progestin medication that thins the uterine lining. In my case, it seems to have thinned it so much that it just continuously sloughs off all old blood, new blood, and endometrial tissue. Every body, and I do mean our bodies are different. For me, this was the final straw with pharmaceutical hormone therapy. After my surgery, I will pursue bioidentical hormones to manage my disease. Best of luck to you!

Well, I spoke too soon. Just yesterday I started spotting...no big deal. By last night I had full blown period cramps and a full blown period. Luckily, the cramps only lasted about 30 minutes and aleve took the edge off. I had to sleep with a tampon in and soaked through. Today it's just as bad flow wise, but no pain. Very strange...I'll stick with it for now, but just thought I'd share!

Italialynn, i might suggest that you track your spotting and bleeding and report it to your gyn on a weekly basis. I do this so that when I find that I have been bleeding on Seasonique for over a month, I can make a more accurate report when I go to see the gyn for resolution. My gyn tends to think that I exaggerate about my bleeding, but if I have a chart with symptoms and flow he doesn't give me such a hard time. Also, my gyn thinks that it is okay to have break through bleeding eternally so long as the pelvic and abdominal pain are at least better than before the seasonique - NO NO NO, I believe that my gyn or family practitioner should be seeking solutions that treat all of my symptoms. I deserve to feel a certain degree of freedom with my body - at least as much as the woman who does not suffer from this disease and only has to manage a 5-7 day period once a month! Good luck!

Thanks for the input...that's a good idea. I'm really going to try and stick it out for the first pack (3 months) but with my blood disorder, I can't afford to be bleeding like this. The pain is still bearable, only minor cramping, but now the bleeding has escalated to nasty, huge, clots that obviously cause some serious cramping while my body is tring to expel them. I'm just a little bummed. I've been feeling soooo much better than normal, but this is a serious pain in the butt. I woke up today just completely drained, and that's my sure sign that I'm losing too much blood and my hemoglobin is dropping.

I wanted to try the Nuvaring b/c Karen and Jenaya seemed to have so much luck with it, but my doc pushed for Seasonique because she really wanted to shut me down (limit periods as much as possible). FYI - if, at the end of your trial of Seasonique you're not loving it, Nuvaring CAN be used continuously... Might be worth talking to your doc about if you're back to square one? Back when I was first prescribed it, my doc told me I could leave it in for up to 5 weeks (though I was always leery of that and almost always took it out after only 4) and put a new one in as soon as I took the old one out if I wanted to skip my period. I'd suggest anyone interested in trying Nuvaring to talk to their doc about it! (I haven't been on it for almost 2 years now so if any of this info has changed, set me straight or talk directly to your doc!)

Just wondering if anyone has any updates to post on seasonique? After this weekend I'm really thinking and need to make some other choices, I can't keep trying to get pregnant and suffering monthly with this pain, 3 days of having a hard time peeing is enough for me. I was on Zovia and had good success, just afew times bleeding during intercourse and was told that the pill was thinning out my cervix.

I stuck with Seasonique for the first pack (which is 3 months worth). I bled for all but two weeks. I would say, overall, it helped my pain a little bit, but the continuous bleeding was just ridiculous. I've heard the bleeding sometimes levels off after the first pack, but with my anemia, there was no way I could chance it anymore. The side effects were very minimal for me - all I had was a little bit of anxiousness and giant boobies, which wasn't such a bad thing. LOL!
