I've been taking Danazol since the end of February. It was kind of working but not really. Some of my symptoms got better while others got worse. While on Danazol, I developed a 3 mm cyst on my left ovary which by the way I still have because it hurts like hell. I also have upper upper abdomial pain that I attribute as endometriosis because it feels like endo. My doctor said when he did my laparoscopy (Jan 2006) he didn't see anything in the upper abdominals (close to my rib cage). Anyone with a similar story or advice.

I took Danazol for many years as it worked for me. However, the side effects are very tough. The upper abdominal pain sounds like it could be a liver problem, and Danazol does effect your liver enzyme levels. Make your doctor do a liver blood test & make sure your enzyme levels are normal. If they are elevated, you may have to go off the drug. Sometimes you do develop cysts because your estrogen level kinda goes up before it goes down. Ask him to measure your estridol level; see if it's in the menopause range. If your estridol level is normal, then the Danazol isn't working and this could be why you developed cysts. Hope this helps. If you want to email me, feel free, at kayedae@aol.com

Hi, I know this is a fairly old message but was wondering if anyone had anything new to add to this topic? I've been taking Danazol for almost three months now and am still uncertain if it is working or if it is worth it. My gynocologist told me it would stop me from getting my period altogether (and therefor lessen pain). I am also on BC pill and have been for many years- with the Danazol, i don't get my period while taking the sugar pills, i get it the week following (although not as heavy as normal) and during this week i still get a lot of pain. Also i have gotten a lot of acne, mood swings and loss of libido, all of which i think i can attribute as side affects of Danazol. I'm due back at the gyn next month to discuss wether i should continue taking Danazol, and i'm not sure what i think. Could it just be that i haven't been on it long enough for it to start working properlly? Any ideas or shared experiences would be great. Thanks very much PS (not sure if age makes a difference, but i am 23)

I started Danazol the beginning of Feb, right after I had emergency surgery. I still got my period 2 months later, so she upped the dose. I then gained 35 lbs, which is absolutely ridiuclous. Then it continued not to work. In June I switched to Synarel, and that has worked since I started it.

^ Do you mind me asking, did you loose the weight when you stopped taking Danazol? I have put on 4.5 kilos in 4 months (which is a lot for me)and don't know if i should be worried about it or just accept it as a side effect and deal with it once i've stopped taking Danazol.

I am OFF the Danazol!! Woo i am so excited about it! I saw my gyn yesterday (first time since i've started taking them) and she took one look at me and said 'you poor thing, you've gotten all the side effects haven't you?'
So i stopped taking it last night. I can't wait to stop feeling so horrible and to start loosing the weight i put on. I also have an appointment with a naturopath tomorrow, so i am looking forward to that!

Hi, I have been on Danazol for two months , as just like most of you, I have been wondering if it was working....So I tried going off it, and within 4 days I had full blown pain again, so back on it I went, but I am looking for something different, as I have most of the side effects.....I also have my period every two weeks (I had not been told that it would reduce them). So it must work differently for all of us. Best of luck to all in figuring out what works....

I've never taken it before. I wish I could offer more help Isn't this kinda an old school approach to endometriosis treatment? I thought testosterone derivitaves were a thing of the past.

Well, when it is the only drug that my doctor has told me about, you kind of got to try it, since he isn't offering anything else...What medications have worked for you?

I don't take any medications. I'm afraid of all of them. My doctor suggested the nuva ring since I have horrible side effects from the pills but I just know my body's tendancy to freak out when I put any medications into it. The danazol treatment was kinda replaced with medications like lupron which induce you into a pseudo menopause. There are so many treatments out there. Have you had a chance to look at some of the other threads to see what other women have taken? I wish I could be more help

Good for you to not take meds, I hope your pain is mild. I am looking threw the treads, but I haven't cross references any as we may not have them here in Canada. Our drug guide lines are different.

I think the danazol is finally working, the pain that shoots down my leg is reduced by half, instead of consumming my day. I had wanted to go off it but I'm not willing to now if it would bring back that much pain.
