It's been a while since I have posted on here, but I am now about at my wit's end with this disease.
To recap, I had my first lap a little over a year ago with a specialist. I was pretty optimistic, but am now feeling like I did before the lap. I have tried pelvic physical therapy, have seen both a Urologist and a GI to deal with new/worsening bladder and bowel issues (recently I have begun bleeding out of my rectum on the first day of my period). I have tried a few different medications and some diet mods. I am taking prescription pain killers to try to get myself out of bed to finish my master's degree (2 more weeks!), work a full time job, and look for a new job after graduation.
My gyno gave me a few options on how we could proceed: 1) Lupron 2) another lap 3) keep on keepin' on. I told her a definite no to the Lupron, and I am miserable, she I asked for a referral to the surgeon she sends her patients who struggle with endo/infertility to. He works as a fertility specialist, but is knowledgeable about endo, as it is a leading cause for infertility and does excision surgery.
So tired of this!

Well, it looks like I am having another surgery. This one is with the da Vinci robotic methods, so I'm wondering who out there has had both the lap and the robotic and how they differ. I'm having it done because of the returning pain, but also new pains. Both the surgeon and I think that the endo could have spread. I also want it done because I have concerns about my ability to have kids, and would like to get "cleaned out" before we start trying.

Hi Emily - This post is a little old, but I was just wondering if you've had your surgery yet? I'm anxiously awaiting the phone call from scheduling to have mine done, and it will be done with the Da Vinci robot as well. I trust my doctor fully, but I am a HUGE weenie, so of course reading on he interwebz is the most brilliant thing I can think to do. Anyway, just curious how you were doing!

Hey mskim, Thanks for the reply, I was beginning to wonder if I had written my posts in invisible ink! Waiting for the call is torture, there is a lot of waiting involved with surgery unfortunately. Wait for the call, wait for the surgery day, wait for the pathology results. But, it will come! I scoured the web before my surgeries, so I can sympathize. As the post implies, this was my second lap. I had it just about 2 months ago and am feeling back to normal. My endo had progressed and a lot more had to be done so at least I felt justified in getting a second opinion. I had felt so guilty about getting another one done. I'm sure that all laps are not created equal and that recovery depends on the surgery and the patient, but I had a very good experience with the da Vinci. It was a longer surgery (3-4 hours) and I had more incisions than last time (3 the first time, 5 the second) but recovery was not as bad as the first time around. Because of everything that was found and the length of the surgery, my surgeon kept me in the hospital overnight, but I know that most ladies go home after a few hours in recovery. My boyfriend was scolding me for bending too much just a few days out. Useful note- don't bend a lot after, your incisions may open up like mine did! Good luck on your upcoming surgery, keep us updated! And if you have any questions, let me know.

Hi, Do you know if they did Excision surgery? I am scheduled to have that done in a few weeks. It will be with a different doctor than who did my other surgeries.

Yes, they were both excision surgeries.

Hi Emily! Glad you are feeling well after your second lap. I had excision surgery in February of this year and am already miserable again. I don't understand how I could be feeling so sick again. I've been posted up on the couch with the heating pad for the past month. (I usually get really bad pains during ovulation as well, but it's been constant this past month.) I've had the rectal bleeding as well for about 10 years. It went away for a few months after surgery but now it's back. And I have awful stabbing pelvic pain. I was wondering if you had any relief after the first lap. I felt better for a little while but now it feels basically the same as I did before. I'm seeing my surgeon on Monday for a check-up and I'm about to lose it!

I honestly did not get a ton of relief during my first surgery. I felt better for maybe a few months but nothing significant. Since my second surgery, however, I have been feeling great. I still have days where I feel like I can't go anywhere or do anything, but they are fewer and further between. I have made diet/lifestyle changes which have added to feeling better. I'm so sorry that you still find yourself planted on the couch, I certainly know the feeling. Good luck!

Well, mine wasn't excision surgery, it was a complete hysterectomy (cervix, uterus, tubes and ovaries) due to adenomyosis and it was laparoscopic robotic-assisted surgery. No bowel prep, only had a catheter during surgery (removed before I woke up). Pain was manageable with Percocet and I was off the hard stuff by day 5 post-op. Was given an Rx for naproxen and estrogen though, 3 mos for naproxen, 1 yr for the estrogen patches. Had first BM on day 6 post-op, and the brain fog lifted this morning. Except for some gas pain, incision stinging, and some general abdominal heaviness, I feel remarkably well. Compared to the 2 laps I had a year ago for appendix and gallbladder, the pain is about equal. And those laps were not robot-assisted. I had a lot more done to me this time, so that's not too shabby.
