Hi my name is Victoria and I am new to this message board. This is actually my first time on a message board/blog. I'm 26 and I was officially diagnosed with endometriosis in 2010. I have a history of cysts, polyps, etc. I'm still trying really hard to get my pain under control. I have a lot of lower back problems so a lot of times one pain exacerbates the other and it's a vicious cycle. I have gone through a whole variety of birth control pills/ hormone replacement therapy and a nightmare course of lupron. I have a new doctor who just decided Mirena should be my next course of action. I've had it for over a week now and it feels like my organs are going crazy. It's caused a lot more pain but I keep hearing it gets better. I originally started looking and the endo resolved site for advice several years ago and finally decided to give this a chance to find other women experiencing the same thing so I could find and give support as well as get advice on everything endo. I just wanted to say hello and I look forward to getting to know everyone

I've seen you on a few posts, but here is my formal Welcome! I wish you the best of luck with Mirena. As I said over on the IUD thread, I only made it a month on it. My issues were not with pain (beyond the first few days) but mostly how the hormones affected me. When I got it inserted, I asked my gyno for clear benchmarks for the Mirena, kind of "wait it out this long and if you like how you feel after this amount of time, you're good". She told me as far as pain, her benchmark is 1 month and hormonally it was 2-3 months. I did not wait that long because the hormones threw me for a loop. I really do hope that the pain subsides and that this is a good option for you. That being said, if you are still miserable with it, don't beat yourself up about getting it removed. It's super fast and easy. IUDs are not for everyone!

Thank you for welcoming me . So after re-reading your posts I am starting to wonder if the mirena was such a good idea. I've had it for a month now and it's made me bleed non stop and my pelvic pain is still intense. Also I have another ovarian cyst. I won't go on about it because I know it belongs in another forum, but I just wanted to say I think y'all might be right. Kind of frustrated because I don't know what options Id have from here

For me, the Mirena was the straw the broke the camel's back -hormone wise. Some people do not respond well to synthetic hormones and I happen to be one of them, so I swore them off. As far as options, your doctor should be able to lay some out for you. There are lots of hormone free things, like diet mods (which Karen has mastered and is a wealth of knowledge for that!), pelvic physical therapy, pain management with medications, massage, acupuncture, etc. There is plenty of info on the boards on any and all of these approaches. I know when I had the mirena removed I was so frustrated and did not think that anything would work for me. I am currently trying some diet mods, supplements, and prescription pain medicine. Honestly, I am still struggling with it, so just know that you are not alone.
