I had my pre-op with dr. Mosbrucker yesterday, since I some how got my surgery approved. I'm even more nervous now than before the appointment. The sacrocopoplexy is a surgical treatment with mesh to pull the bladder, vagina, and rectum back where they belong. I have been having horrible lower back/ deep pelvic pain in the retro-peritoneal cavity and Dr. Mosbrucker is certain this will fix it. I think she is going to get a surprise just like last time by how messed up my insides are, but she promises to fix and clean out all the endometriosis she finds. She was the last person inside my belly so she thinks she knows what she will find. (so to speak, I don't know why but that statement made me laugh when she said it ) I did some research on the mesh prior to going back for the pre-op and it helped me be a little more comfortable but after hearing about the post op restrictions I am even more concerned. I will be on bed rest for four days, nothing but short trips to the bathroom. Two weeks of no lifting anything greater than five pounds and 2-3 MONTHS of no lifting anything greater than ten pounds. She said I will be able to start looking for work about october, but won't be able to work until early to mid november. I was hoping to have a job by no later than August and now I can't even start looking until october. AND there is still all the very bad press this kind of surgery has gotten lately by the FDA, and lawsuits. I talked very frank with Dr. Mos about my concerns and the ultimate worry that it won't help with the other issues like the concern of a reocurring SBO. If anyone has some info on working with surgical mesh for other surgeries or even having a similair kind of surgery I would like very much to hear about it? I have visions of mesh wandering around in my belly getting tied up with my adhesions. I can't seem to get them out of my head. I also want to keep track of my progress as I heal and have a reminder of where I started. This is a subject I'm not comfortable telling people about. My friends are being told I'm "going in to have endo removed" and not that I am having all this repair work while I'm there, and now the greater restrictions and long wait before I can work... its going to be a rough couple of months. Its also eight weeks of no sex instead of the six we first thought which is very troubling to me as well. Its not helpful to my self esteem that I won't even have that going for me. I also worry about this mesh causing issues when we do have sex again. I really don't have a lot of information on it and its making it easy to worry.

Only four days away! Yikes. My house is super clean because I have been using the nervous energy to clean it. We also went camping last two weekends as a family to help relax and reconnect. I figure using the energy to prepare my "nest" that I will be in for a while a better use for it than causing heart palpitations. Any helpful hints to get ready for four days in bed?

Actually I have a bowel prep the night before! I'm going to do it earlier in the day and then its clear liquids that day until midnight. My hubby and I are going over the night before and staying in a hotel. I don't know if bowel prep is very romantic but we are going to try! Last time we can enjoy ourselves for eight weeks!

I just got off the phone with my GI who is sending the correct report to Dr. Mosbrucker. I'm hoping that will help on Monday if she knows where those bloody erosions were in the colon and if they correspond to Endometriosis on the outside. I thought it would be really tricky and frustrating but the right report is being faxed and she read it to me over the phone so I know its the right one. One less worry anyways...

I'm glad that the GI gave the right report to Dr. M. Is she doing the surgery by herself or is Dr. Pai or a GI doc going to help her? As for being in bed for awhile, I borrowed some tv series boxed sets from a friend so I could have something to watch. I like tv box sets better than regular movies since I don't have to get up a lot to change the movie. I like reading but find it is really hard to read after surgery due to the vertigo the anesthesia gives me. I also did small crafts with a glue gun and mended a lot of clothes while stuck in bed.
Good luck! I hope everything goes well!

the surgery went well, Found out the hernia repair they did last surgery was wide open and my Cecum was stuck inside it. Oops... The sacrocopoplexy went smoothly. I'm home today but tired. Long ride home and was complicated by a stop because I was so nauseous. We will go back in six weeks for a check up. She used something to hopefully curb the adhesionss. She said they were really bad again.

Good luck with recovery, Karla. I'm sorry they found more things wrong with you, but I'm glad you were in good hands and there was a reason for the issues you were having. Rest up.

I'm still on bed rest. My butt doesn't like sitting at all. I'm used to being restricted but not THIS restricted. Its hard to type or use this computer, and there isn't much you can do so I'm currently watching Star Trek, and Monk.

I'm glad things went well! That is a really long drive back to Omak, I don't know how you survived it. The bed rest sucks but it's your chance to slow down and take it easy.

Still using ICE six days after surgery. Still can't sit down for any length of time. It feels weird to sit. Like I'm sitting on something... hard. I don't notice the vaginal support but the Rectal support is very strange. I have one more week of really restricted and then I can start walking slowly about 15 minutes a day. The surgery ended up being about 4 hours long to remove all the endometriosis. She said the Sacrocolpopexy went fine. I do however have a huge hernia that is going to have to be taken care of at some point in time. UGH so here is me recovering and already having to plan the next surgery. I really hate this disease. I'm also on 4x a day laxatives, and fiber supplements to protect the rectal mesh. Unfortunatly I am still having issues with not being able to have a bowel movement. I was hoping that these repairs would help the constant constipation. I'm still on pain meds though so I will wait to see if getting off them helps?

I had a coughing fit! I'm hoping I didn't blow out my stiches. I tried NOT to cough but choked on my own saliva. I can't sit yet. It feels funny like I'm sitting on something. I had something super gross happen at the hospital. She had used packing in the vagina and I had a male nurse the second day. No one knew it was there and It started falling out. I got most of it out and it felt stuck. I had this huge strip of gauze stuck (like three feet)half way out. I finally called my RN and had him help me get the rest out. My hubby kept asking what was wrong but I was totally grossed out and wouldn't tell him. I stil can't figure out where all the blood came from since the incisions were on the inside. YUCK. I realize I'm an RN and not supposed to be grossed out by things like this but Its different when its coming out of you!
