I have had a long history of ovarian cysts. As far as I can remember I have had horrible periods. I recently went to my Gyno because I kept experiencing bleeding and lots of pain after intercourse. I had a blood test that came back normal and a pelvic exam that was normal and an ultrasound that came back normal? I'm really confused because I have all the symptoms of endometriosis. I have pelvic pain all the time, heavy bleeding with big blood clots on my period with vomiting and nausea and I recently had a misscariage (despite already being able to conceive 2 children)...I've been to the e.r. several times for pain, for which they did ultrasounds that came back with my ovaries showing lots of big cysts on them. I'm confused as to why my ultrasound came back normal? MY doctor still suspects endometriosis and wanted to put me on lupron..but after tons of research I was a bit scared to go on it because of all the horror stories i've heard from it..so I chose the only other option..a laparaoscopy. I'm scheduled for a laparascopy on the 20th of this month. I'm really nervous, but now i'm feeling like i'm crazy and worried they may not find a reason to why i've been in so much pain? My gyno has told me its prob. endometriosis..but i;m wondering why it wasnt caught with the ultrasound? Is there anyone else who's had an ultrasound come back normal and still had endometriosis?
thanx =)

So many of us had normal u/s but showed endo during a lap. An U/s won't diagnose endo in most cases, only a lap can. In my opinion, no one should be prescribed Lupron without a diagnosis - it'd be like prescribing chemo when a doctor thinks you *might* have cancer - Judy foolish. A lap is a good next step so you know what's going on. Do you trust the skill of the surgeon?

My gyno is the one that performs the surgery. This the the first time i'm seeing her so i'm not 100 percent confident in her experience. She has done other surgeries but i'm not sure how many. I'm not quite sure how to go about asking her about the experience level she has had with with type of surgery...but I do have an appointment with her the 18th to ask all these questions. I have started a list so when I go in to see her I wont forget anything. I know my surgery is scheduled at one of the best hospitals in my area so that makes me feel a bit better, but i'm still really scared at what they may find. My mom and all my aunts on both my parents sides have had either uterine cancers or very bad endometriosis at early ages. I/m not sure how common endo. would be at 25 years old? but I keep hearing its mostly diagnosed in women who are a bit older? This is going to sound stupid and I will def. ask my gyno this question also but does it matter if your are on your period during the day of surgery?

Im 25 have had endo symptoms from when I started my period aged 13 but only got diagnosed aged 22 they kept putting it off as period pains n gave all kindsof pills n injections n impacts to lessen or top periods...
So its not age at all
Dont feel awkward about asking her questions its your health you should be comfortable with your dr and surgeon I see it as your prerogative....try to not stress about what they'll find hun I know easier said than done but u dont want to worry yourself ill.... Regarding being on periods during surgery time im really not sure but am sure someone will chime in and let u know or just call your gynae and ask...x

I am 24 and was just diagnosed. I went to an endo center and was told that the early it is diagnosed and treated, the better.
No it doesn't matter about having your period or not during the surgery. Some surgeons even prefer it since the endo bleeds when you are on your period. Ask your doc, don't feel silly!
