I got over my embarrassment once I realized how helpful it was and convinced myself that it was valid, necessary care for a medical condition. They gave me a dilator to use at home, but it doesn't work nearly as well.

Cherry, you are exactly right about the use of fingers rather than a dilator. My therapist can actually feel when the muscle releases it's tension and relaxes, and where she needs to move to next.
Something else I've learned in one of my recent sessions...I'm a "butt gripper". Yes, that's really the name my therapist called me and I'm sure you all wanted to know that - Ha! Apparently I hold a lot of tension in my bottom - typically when I'm standing and doing dishes or something similar- to overcompensate for my weakened abdomen muscles. It's taken a lot of awareness on my part to notice when I'm doing it and change my stance. My lower back pain has gotten better and it forces me to stop, check in with my body, and relax. She also gave me some stretches to do for my back and hips which are sooo nice! Looking forward to feeling better and getting back into pilates, which I know will help all of that too.

hi everyone, im starting pelvic pain PT and ive had my exam and one session so far and im a little leary of it. My first session and an intital exam and my pelvic floor muscles are extrememly tight and so are my muscles surrounding my "vagina" and all the way into my hips and lower back. I went yesterday to learn some deep breathing relaxation techniques, guided imagery and hand warming techniques. I think next session she will be using ultrasound waves on my pelvic floor muscles to see if she can start to make some improvement there. Im not really sure if this will help, but its my alternative to taking the seizure medication. l'll keep you all updated!! I hope i see some improvements somewhere.

so i had another visit with my PT today, she says the muscles on top my pelvic bone ( like pubic hair region) is all swollen and she worked on those muscles, the muscles inside my leg and up into my hip. it felt much better once she was done although she says i have so many new pressure points that need to be fixed she could keep me all night long! we ended with some electro stimulation (like the chiro) and it felt great while it was on but after i left i started cramping and it was BAD. i dont think im going to try that again, im going to ask for ultra sound waves instead. i go again next monday so ill keep you posted. as of now, my muslces are so tight in my pelvic region that i can NOT have sex, like he cant even push his way inside me. I hope that within a couple m ore visits, that will change! ;D

jjuls, I am finding your description of your physical therapy very interesting. It is a bit different from the one I had but I can't imagine it doing anything but good for you in the long run. I am so happy these procedures are catching on.

I always feel so broken when i go there!!! but i do feel better once i leave. She did the electro stim on me again and re-arranged the position so i didnt have cramps this time which was wonderful! I wish i could go more than once a week, i think its helping. Keep ya'll updated

Thought I'd chime in. I had a lot of pain with my first internal PT session, too, but it was worth it. It took a couple of sessions to really loosen everything, but once it did, the pain with sex was almost non-existent and the endo pain seemed mitigated because I wasn't also storing tension in the muscles.
Hang in there! It will get better.

Hi-I just thought I'd say that I went for the first time to a physcial therapist yesterday who worked on my insides from the outside. She was able to press down on my stomach and pelvic areas and show me where things were just by pressing down. She would even find some adhesions and say "oh there's something" before I would say "oww, you got something there". She's trained to break the adhesions up. Plus, she was able to work my belly button area where they went in with a laprascope. I had no idea I was still that sore from surgery 6-7 months ago. She tried releasing some of the scar tissue (or breaking it up), and I'm sure she did something to it, as it's sore now. She wants me to come back in 2 weeks to work on that again. I hope and pray this will work and keep me from having to have surgery again.

Pelvic floor therapy is very beneficial I have been getting ti done for 3 years now. Yes it can be painful if your pelvic floor muscles are in spasm or shortened for any reason. Mine was severe and I had a nerve entrapment b/c of the tightness of my pelvic floor. I am doing better but still deal with the pain as I have not been able to sit for 3 years. It takes a long time to get your pelvic floor back to normal but as the muscles are stretched and painful trigger points are worked out the relief is great. Pelvic Floor dysfucntion is painful and sex can be painful if your floor is very tight. I wonder if endo. is the cause of this dysfucthion that has scarred and tightened it up thrugh adhesions etc. I am curently working on getting a laproscopy done to see if I hve endo scarring anywhere in mypainful areas. Pelvic Floor therapists are great for this dysfunciton as it is the only way to get it back to normal. I have had trigger point injections into spsamed muscles too which helps me. I want the laproscoy done b/c my montly periods make my damaged nerve worse and wonder if an adhesion is close to the nerve oro ligaments that are in my pelvic floor. You never know. My conditon is severe as it has left me unable to sit and constant pain 24/7. I am getting relief but it is taking a long time for me to heal as I may have obgyn issues too that need to be addressed to see if they are impacting me in my cuurent Pudendal Neuralgia and Pelvic floor dysfunciton condition. ---anyway just wanted to let you know about the therapy. Yes it is painful if your muslces are in spasm or tight and you will get flare ups from the therapy but stay on pain meds and in time you will see the difference as i do.---hope this has helped anyone out there.---lexie

just an update on my PPT (pelvic pain therapy) i think i've been to about 5 sessions and so far, well... i can have sex!! woohoo thats an improvement YAY! im having all sorts of bowel issues so i can't for sure say that its completely helping. I finally got my prescription for a tens unit so im anxiously awaiting the arrival of a new machine. Ive been taking vicodin and cataflam ( not together) for my (what i call ovary pain) its pretty much centeralized on my left side. she did try to work with my abdomen last night and she kept saying how she felt sorry for me. Ugh thats the LAST thing i need from a doctor!!! My trigger points are getting better, she has to push a little harder to find them which is a good thing and there does seem to be less of them ;D hooray for that right? she's only done internal therapy on me once, i think ill ask if we can try it again when i see her on monday. I think it might help more with my "ovary" pain.
