Hmmm, woulda thought there'd be a thread on this already, but i cant find it.
Well day 1 has rolled round yet again So, in my usual stubborness ive refused to take drugs.
But yet again im impressed with relaxation techniques to control pain. It takes about an hour to work well for me, but im getting better and better at it the more i do it. It works so well i can still feel the spasm but it doesnt hurt at all.
What i did today, lay on the bed coz i felt so nauseted from the pain i had to shut out the light. It really took closer to 2hrs to feel well, but i overdid it yesterday and part of it was just resting once the pain was gone.
Focused on my breathing, i started out curled up but as i relaxed was able to straighten out. I repeated to myself my hands are ice for a bit and placed them where the pain was imagining the ice spreading. This usually works, but i was fairly distracted by how bad i felt and it wasnt enough. So i removed my hands, lay flat, and repeated to myself there is no pain my belly is numb, and pictured my belly as ice. This eventually worked. The repitition combined with my focused breathing meant eventually i felt good and could finally relax and had a nice long rest on the bed.
This worked so well that i was able to get up and make myself some tea and now, apart from feeling weak, im ok.
I imagine any sort of repitition works, but this is what i use. I think it helps to practice meditation when there is no pain, so you know how to do it and take yourself to that point when there is pain.
Anyway, took time, but drugs sometimes take that long to kick in, so its just as effective. The key is to stay relaxed afterwards, so obviously this would be harder to do if out and about, but can certainly do it at home. Ive used this same technique in the past to get to sleep when the pains brought me to tears. This has worked better than tramadol.
My ideal is to be able to do this anywhere, to be so in tune with my body that i can create this level of relaxation easily and no matter what. So, im going to try and be more diligent about my meditation and not just do it when i need to, or for 5mins after yoga.
