Hi ladies I had my lap on Tues. I'm still in a tremendous amount of pain two days later. I have horrible gas pains which I understand is normal. However, my problem is that I can't "bear down" to get the gas out - it hurts too much. I still haven't had a bowel movement and I've been eating solid foods for 24 hrs. Took Colace to assist but no luck. I'm on Vicodin, and was on 800 mg ibu, but they switched me to Toradol yesterday. Doc says this (pain) is normal but I wanted to run it past this board. Incisions don't really hurt at all. He was concerned that I have a bowel movement. How long do I need to go without one before calling my doc again? I think I'm also just feeling sorry for myself and want a little sympathy.

I know it’s an endo no no but a friend said coffee helped her to go right after her lap and helped with her gas pains. Might be worth a shot to try a cup? I’m sorry you are feeling bad – hang in there! Please check out the surgery/recovery threads – lots of great info posted there to help you get thru these next days/weeks.

It can take a good few days to have a BM, so don't freak out (especially if you had to do a bowel prep before surgery- you are on empty to start with). The Vicodin will definitely slow down your bowels, so expect some sluggishness while you are still on it. Try to get up and move about, even a short stroll, it will help.
Pain sucks, it will get better!

I agree - it can take a while to have a BM on narcotics! They say stool softeners are good to take, but they didn't work for me... Drink lots of fluids and if you're really uncomfy because you can't poop, call your doc! Magnesium supplements are also supposed to help you go, but given your current state, might be best to call your doc and double check.

Thanks. I had a very loose BM yesterday but tons of trapped gas and gurgly tummy yesterday and a bad full and bloated feeling today. My digestion is just sub par right now. I'm also feeling very sharp stabbing pains from under my diaphragm up to my chest and to the front of my left shoulder. I suspecting this is delayed gas pain from the surgery. Either way, this knocked me on my ass waaaay more than I thought it would. Sheesh.

Either way, this knocked me on my ass waaaay more than I thought it would. Sheesh. Mine did, too. I feel for you! Since your digestion is all thrown off at the moment, try your best to treat your tummy well - whole foods might be most appreciated at the moment! Rest up - it gets better, I promise!

vicodin after my lap gave me horrible constipation. I had one really painful BM and the next day I was determined to have no vicodin and took some stool softener. This and taking fiber helped. But taking fiber usually gives you gas, so I took some gas-x when I took the fiber. Also, drink a ton of water!
It's been 10 days since mine and I feel like my bowels are back to normal now. It can take a little time. I know how you feel though, it's hard to recover from surgery and then you get these other problems on top of it!

I took some colace and a natural bowel cleanse supplement that I had on hand. I want to stop the Vicodin but I get to that four mark and I'm in serious pain. Going to up the water and maybe try some coffee tomorrow. But that usually never gets me to go, so I don't know if it'll work in this instance. So full after dinner right now.
Thanks again for all your support! This board is awesome!
