I have been absolutely exhausted lately. I can sleep 10 hours, wake up and still feel exhausted. I Since I gave up coffee it has been a real struggle. Does anyone have any ideas for something that will boost my energy (minus the caffeine)? I read a post on here about acai berries boosting energy?... Does that really help? I could really use a kick to at least get me through the afternoon.

Here is the link to our thread on acetyl-L carnitine/alpha lipoic acid: endo-resolved.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=alternative&action=display&thread=4754I swear this pill is like the most amazing thing in the world. It has worked for a few of us to increase energy. Didn't work for a few either. The thread explains it all. Check it out. I swear by this stuff. And.... obviously the more raw and whole foods you eat the better. That's nothing new, but I highly encourage it.

And making sure you ahve all the vitamins you need. Have you checked your thyroid? is your iron, vit B, or folic acid low?
Coming off teh caffeine will take a while, but it's good to make sure that you'd not missing anything you need.

smithereens- I do wish I could exercise like I used to. I can't exercise because it really irritates my symptoms and I end up in a worse mess then I was in before. But, I would definitely recommend it to anyone who can still exercise. It really does help.
Janaya- this sounds like a miracle! I will definitely try it. I have been eating really healthy (on the endo diet you kind of have no choice... lol).. tons of vegies and as much protein as I can stuff into a meal, but it just hasn't helped.
rustmyrtle- My iron is/ has always been super low. I have been taking supplements, but it never seems to help (doctors didn't seem to care too much about finding a cause of the low iron..). So, I am used to a certain level of exhaustion because of that, but this is beyond that. I have had some pretty bad allergies lately, maybe that has something to do with my increased fatigue?

How long have you been on the diet? The thing about the diet that people tend to have a hard time with is that it takes a long time before you start to see results. It's just like being on a diet to lose weight. It takes a long time. If diets worked immediately then we'd all be skinny. It may seem like it's not working but you really have to give it some time.
Low iron will make you feel like crap too. Are you just taking iron alone? Iron can't really absorb without the help of other vitamins like vitamin C. Allergies can also zap you of your energy too. When your immune system is amped up, it requires A LOT of energy to do its function.

Very curious about your iron issue & why a doctor would blow it off. I assume it was a gp? And not a hematologist which is a doctor that would benefit seeing if you have low iron. Iron can really mess with your energy. Check 7 see what the ferritin level is on your blood work. Eating high iron foods & supplements can help but if that is still not enough you have other options. My sister gets iron infusions and it helps her a lot. I am unable to do this treatment however most people can. Speak to your doctor about the levels and a treatment plan to help. Sorry you feel like this it is horrible to only want to sleep. Thyroid too can cause all the fatigue. Hope you feel better soon.

Jenaya- I have been on the diet for 4 or 5 months now. I am taking iron alone- but I have an abundance of fruits (including orange juice) every morning. One would think that would be enough, but maybe not. I do think allergies have a lot to do with it. So hopefully those pills will do something!
KSA- Yes, it was a GP. I have had terrible luck with doctors.. It doesn't seem worth the money to go to them any more! All I get for my troubles are clean tests and eye rolling (they think I am a hypochondriac) When I find a good doc I will definitely look more into that.

B12 lozenges I have low vitamin B 12 and find that 1000mcg of the sublingual lozenges in the methylcobalmin form are way better than caffeine any day. I was once a Starbucks addict, for real. Sometimes coming off of sugar and caffeine can take a bit for your body to adjust, its normal to feel like crap at first. How long has this been as issue? I will echo the iron (ferritin) levels and most definately thyroid. I have yet to find a GP that totally gets it so I have moved on to integrative medicine docs and a naturopathic doc. They are out of pcoket and so not everyone can afford this option. Also, go to www.stopthethyroidmadness.com and look at the symptoms under "undiagnosed" to see if these describe you. You may also want to check out the adrenal insufficiency section. The recommended labs section will explain why you should have the above mentioned labs done. From the thyroidmadness website: *******"Why do we often have low iron levels? Because being hypothyroid can result in a lowered production of hydrochloric acid which in turn leads to the malabsorption of iron, whether revealed with low ferritin, or with inadequate levels of serum or saturation" And one last recommend, I love the book "the Ultramind Solution" by Dr Mark Hyman. Hes on doc oz frequently and I love him. His book does such a great job of explaining the vitamin/mineral deficiencies that are associated with anxiety/depression/ADD/brain fog, etc I really hope this info helps you. Best of Luck to you PS: where's Karen.... thought for sure she'd chime in on this one......

^ Ha ha, I was starting to feel like a broken record about thyroid & adrenals, but I'm so glad others chimed in about it! Vitamin and mineral deficiencies are a great place to start, but thyroid is easy enough to get checked out. The thyroid is responsible for energy...

That's really good that you can cross diet off the list of possible causes. That's basically what (good) doctors do. They make a list of possible causes and then rule each one out one by one. You can scratch diet off the list! You do have a lot of other things going on too like the iron problem and the girls here have given you other things to consider. I feel bad that you can't trust a doctor to help you although I completely understand how it feels when tests come back normal and they just look at you like you're crazy. Been there done that! They act like we make things up.
