Someone mentioned feverfew in a headache thread. Anyone know how much you're supposed to have for it to work? Or how much is too much? I'm growing some in a pot. I've only tried a few little leaves at a time for fear of mouth ulcers. It hasn't really worked for me so far. Should I perhaps be drinking it as a tea?

Hi, I hear about it and I planted last year and I used when I had migraines but just a couple of times. I read somewhere that you have to take for a number of days to work. Below some links that might help you. www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Feverfewch.html#HowToTakewww.echonews.com/912/natures_way.htmlThe herb Feverfew (Tanacetum parthenium) is an extremely good preventive for migraine headaches. Eat three leaves of the fresh herb every day, in a sandwich or wrapped in a piece of bread (it is best not to chew the fresh leaf), or take feverfew capsules from your health food store, or drink a cup of feverfew tea. Be careful, though: feverfew can cause mouth dryness and mouth ulcers, irritation and pain in highly sensitive individuals.
Take half a cup of feverfew tea every hour at the first sign of migraine attack or tension, or one cup every morning as a preventive. You can purchase feverfew tea from health food stores or, if you prefer, you can make it fresh from the herb. To make fresh feverfew tea use one tablespoon of the fresh herb to 300 millilitres of boiling water. For individual cups, pour in the hot water, cover, infuse for three minutes, and strain into another cup. If brewing in a teapot, allow one serve per individual and one for the pot. Infuse for five minutes in boiling water, then strain into individual cups. Brew the tea only a ceramic teapot

I used to take it in pill form every day to prevent migraines. At first I thought it was really helping but then I starting having more headaches again even though I was taking it every day, so I gave it up and didn't get any worse. I eventually experienced headache relief when I quit working at a day care that was full of chemicals, and started taking B vitamin supplements every day. Now I don't get migraines very often, and I used to get them every day.

I tried feverfew for my migraines, but did not have any luck. What did help me was taking a vitamin B complex supplement. Vitamin B-2 specifically helps some folks, but they say it's best to take the entire array of B's so as not to create an imbalance. This has helped reduce the pain, duration, and visits to the ER for me. Good luck!

I don't know what to tell you. When I make a herbal tea, I use the chopped up herb, not whole leaves or even freshly picked ones. With feverfew, I only ever used the tincture, but I used 30 drops of it in a glass of water.
