I thought I'd re-post what I wrote in another thread about a different drug, so people can easily have the info. I don't take it though, as I'm taking the progestin-only pill called Visanne ,which is just similar in that they use the same progestin. There is a pill that uses the same progestin (dienogest) that is in Visanne that is available in the USA and it's called Natazia (also available in Europe as Qlaira). It is a combination birth control pill though, so it has estrogen (a new form). Besides BC, it's prescribed for controlling heavy bleeding. Here's an article on it: www.empowher.com/reproductive-sys....youll-want-knowBrussie had mentioned it before in her Visanne post a few months ago but didn't mention the name. There are some people's comments on it and most had pretty good comments, but one woman had a problem with insomnia. Just thought I'd mention that for anyone who might be interested in it as an alternative to try. Also, I noticed that the amount of progestin is HIGHER than it is in the Visanne pill (which is 2mg). It has 4 phases and goes from 2mg to 3mg to 4mg. The 2mg is only in the first few days you take it. Here is the info on the dosage: thewelltimedperiod.blogspot.com/2010/05/fda-approves-four-phasic-natazia.htmlIt's interesting as its dosage is so different from any pills I have taken before and only has two inert ones.

Im considering this pill at the moment. I am new to the Sacramento area and am trying to find a new awesome OBGYN that knows endo. But, I recent GYN that I had in STL gave me a free 3 pack of the Natazia. I spoke w a pharmacist and have done a little reading on line and basically the estrogen in the pill is a different form than what is in other BCP's on the market. Instead of promoting endo growth, it is actually supposed to help cease it. The onoy problem is that there is concern for increased risk of blood clot formation. Anyone use this drug, talk to their doc about it or have any additional info?

Thanks, redwood.
I would be interested in this as well if it didn't contain estrogen. The estrogen part of BC scares me because of increased risk of blood clots and other issues.

Definately estrogen in this. Spoke with my pharmacist today and she says that the studies have not shown this drug to necessarily be more beneficial than other estrogen containing products. The estrogen in this BCP starts high and then tapers down during the cycle. So, if you smoke, are over 35, overweight or a combination: there is a risk for blood clots (as w all estrogen containing products).

yeah, unfortunately it does have estrogen in it. I heard about from brussie who is the one who originally posted info about Visanne as she said it was the same progestin as Visanne, but was a combo pill instead and was available in the USA, whereas Visanne is not yet. I wonder why they approved Natazia first, before Visanne. I actually have never taken it though, so I don't have any other info about it. I just put up a thread for people for information. But maybe it'll attract some people who have taken it, as I think the Visanne thread might have.
