Hi ladies! For those of you who aren't my friends on Facebook, a friend and I have created a project that we would really like to make happen. We need to recruit as many participants as possible, so I thought I'd share it with you and see if any of you are interested in participating! If you like the idea, and want to participate, PLEASE feel free to invite your friends!!
Also, admins, I hope I put this in the right spot, if not, please put it wherever it's most appropriate!!
HELP US MAKE A DIFFERENCE! Maybe you'll be famous
For our final project in PSY 380, Laura Beth and I have come up with a GREAT idea but we need help from as many people as we can get! We want to make a youtube video that will combat gender/orientation discrimination and prejudice.
People of all genders, sexual orientations, and ethnicities will smile and hold up a white handwritten sign in front of the camera stating something about themselves (it can be something broad, something that stereotypes them, something that breaks a stereotype, etc.). As music plays, the film will reel through these people and their statements. Then, there will be some sort of transition and the same people will then be shown holding signs that they have decorated themselves and that state their gender/sexual identity.
The idea is that this video will cause students to think about the fact that we are all human beings, and we are all more alike than we choose to acknowledge. At the very least, it will cause people to think first before judging a book by its cover, and at the very most, it will change a student’s entire perspective.
**Adults (18 and over) of all ages are invited to participate!!**
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
-You will need to take two photographs of yourself.
-For the FIRST photograph: have someone (or your computer) photograph you in an appropriate, well-lit environment smiling and holding a white sign (this MUST be clearly legible!!) that says something about you in black ink. This can be absolutely anything, as long as it is appropriate. You can say something as deep or as light-hearted as you want, but just make sure that it is based on the fundamentals of being human. ("I watch Gossip Girl," "my brother is sick," "I do my homework," and "I'm a BMX rider" are all examples of these)
-For the SECOND photograph: take a photograph of yourself holding another white sign, decorated or designed however you like, with your gender identity/sexual orientation clearly legible. Mine, for example, will say, "straight."
Please submit* full-sized photos to:
crossley@uoregon.edu
BY MARCH 1st.
*by submitting these photos to Jessica via e-mail, you are authorizing permission for us to use them in our video.
If your photos do not meet the following requirements, they may not be used, so if this is important to you, be sure you have these bases covered! Requirements:
-Well-lit
-Legible sign
-Good resolution
-Be appropriate (no profanity, creepiness, inappropriate clothing or nudity, gross!)
-No other people/distracting objects in the photo (stand against a wall, lay in the grass, stand outside, etc.)
-All other instructions followed
THANK YOU to everyone who plans to participate!! Good karma will follow you for DAYS AND DAYS Feel free to invite your friends!!!
If your photos are selected for the video, we will notify you via email and send you a link when the video is finished!
