My gynecologist just called me w/ the results of some hormone testing, and of course my hormones just haaad to be all out of whack.
Over the past few months I've been having short, short cycles, some lasting only 14 days, some without ovulation. Anyway, my gyne. told me to keep charting my cycles (basal body temps), and if I do ovulate, to use natural progesterone cream from the day of ovulation until I get my period. It's supposed to lengthen the second half of my cycle. Yahh, I already knew that and tried that, and I only had a 10 day luteal phase (second half of my cycle from ovulation until my period), instead of the 14 it's supposed to be. Anyway, if I do ovulate this cycle, I'll try the progesterone cream again. Maybe I can kill 2 birds w/ one stone...

Hi, Denna! I know when I ovulate or if I don't by charting my temperatures every morning first thing when I wake up. I type my temperatures in to a chart on a free website, and it detects my ovulation for me. I also use ovulation test kits. I buy them in bulk from a medical supplier in Canda. Very cheap. I can buy 50 of them for USD $17.99. I also have a saliva ovulation microscope that is supposed to show what resembles ferns (due to increased salt in saliva) when you are ovulating. Because my hormone levels are out of whack, I have never seen true ferns appear, but my saliva does become thicker when ovulation is happening. You can also check your cervical position and texture--I don't usually do this, so I don't know much about it. Also, you can check your cervical fluid consistency--I also don't know much about this. Progesterone cream is a cream that has usually either bioidentical or plant progesterones like what our bodies produce during the second half of our cycles and during pregnancy. You just rub in 1/4- 1/2 teaspoon twice a day from ovulation until you get your period. The progesterone cream I use was recommended by a naturopath. It's called Parabeen-free Pro-Gest by Emerita. I bought some very cheaply from a lady who sells only progesterone cream on eBay. Seems to bet the same stuff I spent a ton of money on at a healthfood store. Here is a link to a thread on here where you can find a link to her auction site. She usually sells it for between $14.99 and $19.99. cjlevett.proboards33.com/index.cgi?board=progesterone&action=display&thread=1153849502If you are having your period on time each month, I bet you are ovulating.

I'm actually NOT trying to conceive. No prayers are needed . I wound up having a chemical pregnancy back in May (I think it was), because I took one birth control pill on day 1 of my period, thinking I would go back on it for a month. I decided not to and didn't take any more pills. Well, that 1 pill made me ovulate on day 11, and since I don't usually ovulate until day 28 or so or later, I didn't check for any ovulation signs... I got pregnant, but it didn't stick, because I don't make enough progesterone (most likely scenario). Not trying to get pregnant, but if it happens, I'll be elated.

Btw, if you are interested in the ovulation test kits, 50 of them for USD $17.99, the link to the guy's merchandise is search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZmedical-wholesaleQQhtZ-1 . Here you can find ovulation predictors and pregnancy tests. It's all he sells. They're so cheap! You can even get 25 pregnancy tests for $9.99! You can also get mixed packs.

posted by guest user becky in another thread ______________________________________________ "hi. this is probably a really stupid question but, if I use natural progesterone cream to counteract oestrogen dominance and treat endo, will it effectively prevent me from getting pregnant because it induces a 'pseudo-pregnancy' and my body will think it's already pregnant? what is the advice about using natural progesterone if you're trying to conceive?
thanks"

Hi, becky.
First off, not everyone who has endo is estrogen dominant. I have endo, but I also have low estrogen and progesterone. If you think you are estrogen dominant for whatever reasons, you can ask your doctor for some blood tests to find out.
My OBGYN recommended that I use progesterone cream from ovulation until I start my period or until 12 weeks pregnant. The reason: I have low progesterone and have a short luteal phase. You can easily tell if you have a short luteal phase/low progesterone usually by charting your temperature each morning.

Nope. My gynecologist recommended taking it from ovulation until you get a +pg. test (and then until week 12 of pregnancy) or 14 days past ovulation. Pretty much the ONLY accurate way to do this is to chart your BBT temps. It probably won't help you much if your pogesterone and estrogen are normal, but it probably won't hurt, either. You could always ask your gynecologist. I commend you for getting your hormones tested and not just thinking you have an "estrogen overgrowth!" Good job!!!

For six months last year I used 60mg progesterone cream daily for part of my cycle. After that I was on Zoladex and lost over a stone in weight, and I'm even finding now that 50mg progesterone cream daily (25mg morning and evening) makes me too sleepy. Has anyone else encountered this after losing weight?

I'm on progesterone cream. I'm down to 25 mg suppositories and an unknown amount of cream (one dosage) per day. And yes, I'm sleepy. In fact I was just talking to my MIL about it because I couldn't figure out why I was still so incredibly sleepy in the second trimester, then I remember coming across one website that said one side effect of over progesterone production/taking can make you sleepy. It wouldn't surprise me that weight loss would effect your dosage.

Thanks for your reply, Michelle. My basal body temperature (luteal phase) has also been sky high for the past 2 days: higher than ever, in fact but definitely not due to infection.

Sounds like you have enough progesterone.
