Hello, I just had my first lap done on Dec 2 (almost 2 weeks ago) so I know my incisions will itch because they are healing, but my whole stomach is so itchy I can't stand it!!! Is this a typical symptom after a lap, or is there something wrong?? Also, I'm having the exact same pain and cramping that I did going into surgery. Is that usual as well? I thought the lap would fix everything! So disappointed

I had this after my lap and it turned out I had developed an "allergy" to something that was somewhere, or something? I thought it was just "healing" and that's why it was so dang itchy but I finally called my Dr's. and they suggested Benadryl. It cleared it right up so it must have been a reaction? It was very strange. I would suggest a quick call to your doctor and describe any redness around the wounds, on your tummy, etc. and see what they suggest? I don't know if it was the stitches, steri strip adhesive (cause it was still there and I had to use alcohol to get it off) or a reaction to the stitches? I have no idea but it sure was itchy and it was way more itchier then just healing skin. I had a brief thought of "what if its the stitches" since they are internal and it kind of freaked me out but when I had my two week check up they said adhesive is usually the culprit. So I'm not saying that's what you have, but it is a possibility?

Omak is right, check with your doc about the itching! As far as the same pain, it could take a few more weeks to really get a feel for how you'll feel post-lap. Even though things may look pretty minor based on your incisions, a lot went on inside! If more time goes by and you still don't feel any different, talk to your doc about other options. One I would highly recommend for cramping is pelvic physical therapy. Surgery will remove visible endo, but it doesn't correct the overcompensation of your muscles dealing with the pain, and PPT can help correct that. Sadly, a lap isn't a cure for endo, it's often just a starting point. But, rest assured, there are other options out there! Here's a thread on other people's timelines for when pain came back: cjlevett.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=surgery&action=display&thread=889

I was itchy after my bowel resection, mostly because the area below my belly button was pretty numb and sensation was all off. I didn't have any redness, though, so check with your doc to be sure! I wasn't itchy after my laps but the resection was pretty involved and I might have gotten used to it. Give yourself some time to heal, even a few cycles so you really know how you're feeling.
